Isnt the only difference between the oem coils the length? Or is there a difference in the diameter of the coils? I have never compared them

Over the weekend I had my coilovers rebuilt and I had purchased the 14" 700# rate coils to replace the current 13" 650# rate ones. I left the preload amount the same as I wanted to see what it would do. It was stiffer than a morning woody! I ended up having to drop the preload down around 1-1/4 inches. It's now sitting around 1-3/8" preload on both sides. Also sits higher in the front, likely due to needing a little more weight for the rate of the spring and also just needing to settle a little.
So the question on whether a 14" spring would require a change in preload.. Yes, it did.

So is it safe to assume the less preload, the softer the ride. I'm looking into getting some radflo's and to replace my current front suspension. Looking for a more plush ride on/off road. Don't really have plans to get a bumper and if I do I don't believe I'll add a winch anytime soon.

No. If you have a 300lb/in spring that is preloaded 4" it will still be softer than a 500lb/in spring with no preload. Simply, you want to pick the spring to get the ride height you want. After that tune the shock. Adjusting the spring rate to try and dial in the ride quality is the backwards way to go. Granted you need the ride combination of spring and valving, but just messing with springs without touching the valving will never get you the perfect/best ride quality.

ah okay so the radflo's offer 650-750 lb springs I believe. I don't know much about valving and all just looking for something better then the setup I have now. Also would like to be at about 3.25" in lift
I do mostly highway. Get off road a little bit. My cabin roads are washboards and the current set up is absolutely unbearable at 7-10 mph which I think is pretty disappointing when my brothers 14 silverado with a leveling kit does better then my runner
