performance "chips" for 5th gen

I'm not interested in more power, but more fuel efficiency. As we add racks, tires, lifts etc our trucks become pigs on the highway. Maybe there is a chip or programmer out there that has economy settings for highway driving and then maybe towing and off road settings that change shift points and throttle response rather than actually changing the hp performance of the engine. Anyone know of anything like that? My buddy just got one for his jeep which does just that from super chips. It also calibrated his speedometer for his 35's

I'm really not sure if there's going to be anything more efficient than Toyota's original programming. It's not as if the 4runner was tuned with performance in mind from the factory, so I'm pretty sure Toyota has already extracted every last drop of efficiency there is to extract. Loosing fuel efficiency just comes with the territory IMO.

My old 2001 VW Passat 1.8T had a performance chip installed. HP rose from about 150 to just under 200 but the torque increased more significantly...from 150 to 250. It was quite remarkable!!! It was from APR if I recall correctly.

The first thing most folks upgrade is the engine. They boost horsepower (somehow) and then end up blowing a clutch, transmission or rear end. The weak link goes first; because vehicle componets are made to work together, like 1engineer said.

Tuning is much simpler on forced induction engines.

Yup...sure is!!! The performance chips for VW's naturally aspirated V6 didn't offer much power increase.

Bully Dog - GT T+ for Toyota

Doesn't add much HP but maybe the options and revised mapping would be beneficial to somebody. Without adding forced induction, there's not much left on the table for NA motors.

You need forced induction to create more significantly more (15+ HP) power on naturally aspirated engines, period. Also, don't put your warranty at risk, it's not worth it for 5-10 HP that you actually won't be gaining at all.
