Photo Enforced Signal and Ticket

My cousin was driving my car and got his mugshot taken while driving through a red light. Since the Camera can't distinguish my cousin from me I imagine I will get the ticket since the my car is registered to me.

I wonder if I will have to go to court to show the Judge the picture of my cousin to prove that it was not me? Has anyone been in this situation and how did it get resolved?

I'm not exactly sure but, If its the first time being caught with that car i think they just give you a warning. maybe someone can back that up?!?

Why not have your cousin pay the fine? Around here, the speed/traffic camera tickets don't add any points to your record. It is essentially there to gather revenue for the city...

there are articles about it floating around on the internet but the red light cameras have absolutly nothing to do with the law or the police. It is run by a private company that splits commision with the state.

They dont care who was driving at the time its whoever the car is registered too, thats where the ticket will go. You can try and tell your cousin to pay but thats between yall. All you have to do is mail in the fine and thats that, its not on your record or insurance or anything else for that matter like i said its a private company that does it.

However if you decide not to pay the fine the state will work easily in accordance with the company and come find you and summons you to court for not paying and thats when you get into legal issues.

They just installed a dozen of these cameras in Knxoville, TN. After the first few weeks (when warnings were being issued), they changed over to issuing citations. The vehicle's registered owner is the one cited, and it is their responsibility to identify who was driving the vehicle if it wasn't them.

If the actual driver doesn't want to do the honorable thing and own up to it, the vehicle owner is stuck with the fine. I guess the courts figure the owner will make sure no one else drives their vehicle after that.

A couple of ambulances on non-emergency runs were cited, and if neither crew member owned up to driving, they were both stuck with paying half of the ticket.

We used to have those God-forsaken things here in VA -- but just for traffic lights and not for radar/speed enforcement. Fortunately, the law that allowed the cameras in some selected Northern VA localities (Fairfax, Alexandria, Prince William, etc.) sunsetted in July of 2005 and they went away.

However, there are a lot of politicians and "safety nazis" who are trying to get them back into service. They've been looking at how many millions of dollars Washington, DC has been raking in with both red-light and radar cameras - and they also want a piece of the pie.

Maryland has some traffic cameras, too. My brother got nailed by one of them. They sent a picture of his car in the intersection when the light had changed to red - along with a ticket for $60 or so. He could either send in the $60 and not get any points on his license.....or request a hearing and have to fork over $100 and get three demerit points if he were found guilty.

And they are just about money? Aw, come on! {sarcasm meter turned to maximum power} They said the same thing about artificially low speed limits, too.

P.S. I cannot help but wonder why these cameras seemed to be installed at places with poor light timing and "shortened" yellow lights; or why radar cameras end up on roads posted at 25 mph where traffic flow is consistently 35 to 40 mph. Just about money? Say it isn't so!

the red light cameras are for speed too, they flash twice taking 2 pictures, the first one for the liscence plate and the 2nd time to calculate how fast you were running that light, normally on the ticket it will show your speed.

I had a college buddy with some quick thinking throw up a middle finger and that could be seen in the 2nd picture, pretty funny.

im curious if anyone has tried that spray on reflective crap thats been on the today show and what not?
