Photobucket Update

I decided on imgur because it is directly associated with Reddit which is one of the most popular sites on the planet. Also they have mantra always free.

Bandit Runner, Ive been using flickr for about 3 months now and am loving it. There are very few adds, you get 1tb of space free and its much easier to organize things IMO

I spent a good week replacing all the photos in my V2 build thread and the buyers guide.

This has been extremely frustrating, forums were already becoming less popular lately and this sure as hell isn't going to help. We are losing so many good write ups due to this.

I switched to Flickr btw.

You can download all of your photos from PB to your computer. Then start a new picture hosting account somewhere else, then re-upload them. Then edit your posts and change the link for each photo. Could be a lot of work if you have a big thread. Score one for me for being lazy and not updating my thread!!!!

Yeah, problem is I just don't have the time anymore to go through all of that and now that I've sold my 4runner, the motivation isn't there. It's also the random threads that pictures are posted that people forget about, but may need info from later on. Really sucks they did that.

This whole situation pretty much takes me out of the forum game.

Unfortunately I have been using Photobucket since day 1, so every thread I created on this forum is dead. I already spent many hours at one point moving all the images for my write-ups into their own dedicated PB account and re-linking them so that users would not run into the bandwidth limitation each month.

So, now I am spread across three different PB accounts, all of which are shut down... that's right, for me it would be $400 times THREE... check mate. Six write-ups that I spent much time on, not to mention four build threads are trashed.

With circumstances in my life being what they are, there is no time in the foreseeable future when I will be able to move the images and re-link all my posts. This is pretty much BFAD out. Sorry guys.

I spent a few minutes seeing who was using what and unfortunately Dirtco will soon be going dark, along with blcktpgsr and many other great builds (several of whom have already posted in this thread). This is truly a gut punch to the shared knowledge base represented by internet forums.

as someone that is new to the 4runner game and about to start a full build on one, this truly sucks as the amount of info on this site has been very helpful until now. I don't have any linked pics on this site as i just got here but i've posted builds on snowmobile forums since 2007 that are now gone.

If anybody uses tapatalk, you can upload pics directly from your phone through the app. might be the way i go from now on.

Luckily I just started using PB for my new build thread, but even getting those few pages back together is annoying. I can't imagine what it would be like for others with extensive write-ups and threads that have been around for years...definitely a shitty move even if it makes sense on their part.

I use exclusively the Photobucket App from my iPhone and have for many years. I looked at a post a minute ago from 2012 that I included a photo on and a post I made yesterday with a photo, and the Photobucket links are not broken. What option is everyone using in the pic below to post? I use "Direct" and have had no broken links on any of them

Where Did So Many Pictures Go?

Look back through old posts recently and you will notice tons and tons of uploaded images and pictures are gone. Why you ask? Because photobucket decided to change their terms of service and screw their customers by breaking links and preventing "free hosting" images from being linkable. So years and years of photos and the information they conveyed are gone now.
Screw photobucket.

I always use the "direct" link, but none of my pics are showing up.
I've always used the IMG tagged link, but remove the crappy link tag they add. That might be why mine are still up. I think. I have downloaded all my stuff to my computer so far, ready to start the crazy process of updating photos.

Can the $2.95 membership (or whatever) get you unlocked so you guys can at least download your stuff back out?

I am SOOOO glad I switched to Flickr a few years ago. It took a long time to get each of my build threads switched over, but it was worth it. Photobucket has sucked a fat one for many years.

Flickr offers a ton more space and 150x the reliability.

Serious cash grab by photbucket. I can't even go to the site without getting 3-4 ads all over the page. I'm not sure why any one used them at all.

To be fair, the photos are all still there, the owner can see them and you can still look at members albums, just no links to forums allowed unless you pay a ransom. For what they are asking you can buy your own domain and hosting for several years.

There is thread in off topic section on this.

Unfortunately this development has been pretty much a disaster for some of the best threads on this forum.

Damn. I used photo bucket before I was even 21 lmfao. It's almost impossible to use it on iPhone. So many adds and shit they really went to shit.

I don't use them, but this sucks donkey balls. I already hated sifting through dead end write ups with broken links. Now some of the best pictures, write ups, and motivating images are getting nuked. Super lame.

It sounds like the Photobucket name and company has put a real turd in the punchbowl. Great way to elevate your company idiots!

This has caused quite a stir on another forum I belong to. Thousands of photos *poof*

Many have switched to Flickr or imgur

I am not familiar with either, so not sure what I will be doing at the moment.

With free image hosting services like flickr and imgur, I don't know what the hell Photobucket is thinking they're going to accomplish with this move other than to drive the remaining few people who were willing to put up with their ads and awful download speeds to other, free-er image hosting services.

PhotoBucket has redefined sleazy. Extorting loyal users...yeah, that's a solid business plan. I hope they fail spectacularly.
