Yeah those are the only LEDs I've really considered. All the other brands look cheap to me; their prices look nice but the bulbs not so much. If I do the LEDs they will definitely be Piaa LEDs.

I ordered a set of the Philips X-treme Visions off of Amazon last night, seem to have decent reviews at a hair over 30 bucks. They have to be better than the crappy bulbs I have in there now. We will see when I get them in.

They've been lasting roughly a year, year and a half or so at a time. Which isn't great, but for $5 each shipped, the lifespan isn't a big deal.
And they're very bright and white. On my first pair, after a year and a half or so one burned out, and on short notice I went and got a $$ Sylvania Silverstar from the local parts store and put it on, and it was very noticeably dimmer than the $5 el cheapos.
Now, I just buy a set of 4 whenever I need more and have a couple of spares in hand.
Cheap, works great, win.

Um...I think it's a bad idea to use Skull Rings as headlight bulbs. Just my .02 though. :lol:
Back to the topic at hand; I'm disappointed to see the PIAA non-LED bulbs burn out quick-ish. I have a set of LED headlights but I'm honestly not that impressed with them since it seems like they just can't throw a beam that far. They are a couple years old though, and I'm wondering if the PIAA ones would be any better.
I forget which ones I got, but they were recommended on this forum a couple years back. I was excited to try the PIAA halogen ones after these burnt out, but they still haven't burnt out.

I installed these PIAAs on September 14, 20014. Definite step up from stock and both still good after 27 months. This is a daily driver and gets plenty of night use.
Of course, they could both pop tomorrow....
I don't have the slightest idea what happened with that link description. The URL does point to a pair of very bright & white headlight bulbs though.

Being able to compare while driving with one blue and one yellow bulb I actually liked the cheapo bulb a little better. I was surprised to find I prefer a warmer white (but not 3100k warm) so replaced both bulbs with a 2-pack of Philips X-treme vision 3700k for $24.24 and I like them. Only 4 months old though, we shall see about longevity- hopefully later than sooner.

I find the warmer/yellower bulbs works better at night in the fog, snow & rain. Where as the whiter bulbs light up the fog, snow & rain. It's like using your high beams in fog...it just makes it harder to see. Where as yellow fog lights cut right through it. I dont understand people with white fog lights!!!! LMAO!

In my landcruiser which has fluted lens I've been using 50W HID's in it for the last 6 years without a problem. The key to HID's is buying the correct ones.
Mine have a cover on the bottom half of the HID light itself to stop the light reflecting on the bottom reflectors and bouncing upwards (producing glare and blinding other drives). The cheap kits out there don't have these.
I also believe if you have clear lens, then your only option with using HID's is to retrofit a projector lens inside them. So far these things have outlasted any typical H4 bulb I've had, produces very good light output and remains legal. I got the kit cheap off a friend, but they tend to be under $100.

See that's one problem I have right there with HIDs — I have no friggin clue what you just talked about up there. I've never built a set of headlights (skipped that day in class I guess) and really don't want to spend the time wading through a million old threads about them. I've read some of them already and the info gets dated quickly, the links to this part and that part are often broken or the part isn't sold anymore. If there was a decent plug n' play kit that I could just swap right in — that would be cool...if it doesn't cost $300-600.
Maybe I'm just getting old and lazy...er, but I do not want to screw around with building headlights. I know I'd f**k that up real quick.

Yes, Piaa is a great company, and if you order them through ME, the halogen style, or the led, I SELL BOTH piaa halogen and piaa led on my site I can get piaa to warranty just about anything, time not always being a factory. I've dealt with piaa for 10 years and they take care of my customers.
The feedback on these in the 3rd gen headlight housing has been great. see link below.

If I buy some I'll probably buy them from you Jason, but those before/after pictures aren't very useful for me since they compare different bulbs in different conditions, e.g., Silverstar Ultra halogens without snow and then the Piaa LEDs in the snow. It's hard enough to really discern the differences with bulb lighting through a camera because the camera is always adjusting for light. But then add in a different environment and different bulbs and it gets ever more difficult.
I would like to see some high-def before and after photos in the same conditions with various backgrounds like an actual road and a wall.

The good news is, there are now about 12 people on here, well, I think on here, that have the new LED versions on their 3rd gens. I'm getting great feedback on these. And they are warrantied for 2 years, but I can probably warranty longer since Piaa does a lot of for me.,

i installed mine a while ago, but heres a couple shots:

night shot, tried to find the darkest road near me. this road is cut between a "tunnel" of trees, no outside light gets in.
pretty damn happy with them so far. dont have any before shots but the HID kit i was using is noticeably less bright. a full projector retrofit would probably be brighter, but id say these are a great deal when you consider the cost of a retrofit
I think now over a dozen people on here have, well, I think on here, that have in their 3rd gens.
