Picked up a 2005 T4R V8...coming from a Tundra 5.7, Love the exhaust note!

I've had a lot of different vehicles. Without listing them off, I had a 2000 Limited 4runner with rear locker. I absolutely loved it. I needed some more towing power, but couldn't believe how expensive the 4runner is with the V8 in Canada. I ended up leasing a 5.7L Tundra SR5. It was great, towed like a beast, but I still really wanted a V8 4runner. I finally found what I wanted...2005 Shadow Mica Sport Edition V8 with JBL. It just seems like a much more solidly built truck. Incredibly smooth and refined, but what I really couldn't get over was the sound of the 4.7! It sounds amazing...I always have an urge to romp on it to hear the sound. I never had that feeling with the 5.7. Does anybody else feel this way?

same here man, i have V6 that have nice rumple to it. but i know how you feel my family members have 2 Tundra 03&05 and man oh man that iron block plus that VVT-i makes a big different.

All my friends, who had a chance to ride in my truck, are amazed how smooth, quite and powerful that thing is.

I always find it funny when people comment on how great the JBL sound system is. To me the sound system and the ground clearance are my biggest complaints about my 4R. Even the stealership pointed that out when I was researching like the JBL system was good or something. Oh well.....trying to play the stereo super loud. Hopefully a speaker blows so I can change everything out.

Non-vvti is smoother imo.

The JBL system stinks IMO - matter of what your used to.

What engine sound are you referring to? Of all the V8 vehicles I have owned, the 4Runner is by far the quietest. I would love to hear any kind of exhaust note but sometimes I can hardly tell mine is running. Are you sure the previous owner hadn't installed an aftermarket exhaust system?

No aftermarket exhaust. The only V8's I've owned was the 5.7L Tundra before this 4runner, so I was just making a comparison between the two. I was surprised that the 4.7L had a nicer sound than the 5.7.

Regarding the JBL, it wasn't a deal breaker, just a bonus. It really does sound muddy. I'm guessing its due to the 6x9s...you just can't get clean sound out of 6x9s. I'm a huge audiophile with a DIY 7.1 system in my house. The JBL isn't by any means high quality sound, but I'd definitely take it over the factory stereo. I have no plans to spend money on there stereo in the truck so I'm happy with the JBL being a bit of an upgrade...even for resale purposes.

my family like the JBL, as for me i don't see any different form JBL & non-JBL you guys are right, and it's good as resale value
