Picked up an 01'

Just picked up an 01' SR5 2WD 4Runner with 106,000 miles on the chassis and a newly rebuilt motor put in 50 miles before I purchased it.

Suspension was shot so I bought some 99 tall springs and monroe OESpectrum shocks for the rear and monroe quick struts for the front. It rides much nicer now and the suspension took me from 32in ground to fender height front and rear to 35.5in rear and 36in front. I'm debating some spacers for the rear to level it out, we'll see how much it bothers me. Took about 2 hours to change both front and rear suspension.

Added a pinstripe to the side and plasti dipped the wheels and emblems so far.

I'm also too tall for the stock seats, my head hits the sunroof, so I ordered some cipher CPA2001 racing seats to hopefully lower me down a bit. The seats look identical to Corbeau Sportline RRS seats except these come in tan which I need to be a closer match to the interior color. I'll give an update on they fit once I get them in - should be in 2 weeks hopefully.

Welcome to the club... looking forward to seeing the butterfly when its ready... Looks like u have a solid platform for something awesome.
 
Welcome, I dig the blackout look. Can't wait to see it modified as you go, but be careful it gets addicting and expensive but a lot of fun.

I've noticed how expensive it can get quickly! I did tons of researching in this site before I replaced the suspension and decided the route I went was the cheapest to get the little bit of lift I wanted without going over $1000 for some coilovers and then needing bigger tires so it didn't look funny all while keeping a nice ride quality for pavement. If it was 4wd it would've been a different setup for sure!

ive been looking at getting a set of cipher seats but I can't find the mounting bracket anywhere online for them. Are you going to fab your own mounting brackets or were you able to buy them?

I'm not too fond of the black out look myself BUT if you didn't go black out the red pin stripes would've looked better.

Maybe do away with the red stripes or the black out of the wheels should even it out nicely.


But nice find! How much did she set you back if you don't mind me asking?

I got the truck for $5500 which seemed like a pretty good deal considering the new engine, new paint job, and flawless interior.

The beauty of plasti dipping the wheels is that I can always peel it off if I change my mind about them and it only cost $20
 
The bigger red flag is why would you dump all the money into rebuilding the motor then get rid of it after 50 miles.

I got the truck from my mechanic, he will buy cars from auction to flip as a side business. This came from auction with a blown motor so he replaced it with a rebuilt - the 50 miles was him driving around to make sure everything else worked as it should and nothing more was wrong with it.
 
The red stripes don't work for me (reminds me of a 70's Ford sedan) but if you like them that's what matters.

The missing center cap on the front drivers side also detracts things IMO.

Just my .02. Don't be offended.

The red stripe was something I wanted to try just to break up the all black look I see so many people doing, something a little different. It took a few days to really enjoy it but I like it more now.

Missing center cap on the front driver side is why I took them all off when I plastic dipped the wheels, couldn't stand one missing.
 
Thinking about getting some red lug nuts and red plasti dip for the emblems to add a bit more red to complement the pin stripe - make it look not so alone on the truck.
 
Looks like a clean truck. I love black sport editions. Or just black 4Runners in general haha.

Personally I would pull the red pin stripe and run a silver of some sort of pinstripe to break up all the black. It will stand out still, but won't be as in your face as the red. My dad has a double cab tacoma and it has a silver pinstripe that looks really good on it. My 4Runner has the factory pinstripe decal things running along the body lines.
