Pics of 2xx/75/17

I am looking at that tirerack special right now on the silent armors 255/75/17 qty 4 for 507 w/shipping but I dont know if I am a fan of the extra height.. Does anyone have some pictures of similar sizes on their rig? Whats the difference between 70 and 75?

Is this extra bit going to be bad for the majority of my driving (highway)?

If you're concerned about the added height, also look for pics of a 265/70/17. That is about the same height as the 255/75/17:

I'm planning on putting them on my ride and think they'll look great. Plan on doing it early next week so I'll take pics then, if it's not too late.
 
I bought 255/75/17 GYWSA from tirerack 2 days ago and will be putting them on before end of the year. Lots of pictures to come
 
If you look at what the different numbers mean it makes more sense.
265/65/17
Means the tire is 265mm wide, the rims are 17" in diameter, and the tire from the rim to the tread is 65% of 255mm (6.8"). So the total tire height is:
6.8" bottom tread to rim + 17" rim + 6.8" rim to top tread, or about 30.5"

So a 265/70/17 and a 255/75/17 are pretty close because the rims are the same size, and sides of the tire are proportional to the width. 70% of 265 ~ 75% of 255

OK... I don't know if I even understand what I just wrote, but hopefully it helps.

I got it! Thank you always thought it was another measurement like 255mm not a proportion

You'll have some range of pressure that'll be good. My guess is they'll drive 'right', wear well and ride good at around 38-40psi.
1) These are taller than the OE tires and the sidewall will flex a little more in the turns. To compensate for that adding some air pressure will help. The GYSA is rated to 44psi so you're not running it out of limits.
2) In order to avoid the classic over-inflation or under-inflation wear patterns you will need to run a bit more than the OE specified 32psi. When you go to a narrower/taller tire on the OE rim width the tire will wear like it's under-inflated if you run the OE 32psi
3) Degradation of ride quality will be nil based on other vehicles I've done this type of swap on. The "lost ride quality" due to 38-40psi is offset by the larger diameter and taller, more compliant sidewall. No net loss or gain of ride quality usually. ('No' might be too strong, negligible is a better word perhaps. :) )

Ok, just pulled the trigger. $739 mounted, aligned, road hazard, tax etc. Tires will be in Monday:D If you're in metro Atl that's Wood & Fullerton GY, Alpharetta. I know the store manager through family. He was adamant that all tire prices were headed up in January. When he looked up this size he was blown away with what a deal they are as he runs the GYSA on his vehicle (different size).


I was assured they'd balance properly, I'd love the wet performance, ride etc. He said that when compared to the Cross-Terrains I would notice more noise if I shut the radio off and rolled the windows down. His take is they are very quiet for an A/T but they're still an A/T.


BTW, that's price is for 5 GYSA's:D

I was about to say that price was decent because I got four Duratracs for $800, but then you threw the five in there.

Nice work. :trophy:

I'm kind of surprised that size fits a stock 4runner though.

I'm excited... I do too much road driving for Duratrac's or similar:( I think these will be just right for me:bigok:

I too am surprised about the size fitting. Based on all the guys that went to the BFG M/T Jeep tires when they were $100/tire I should be fine. Guys with no spacers and no lift were 100% ok even with the added O.D. I don't have spacers and I am lifted a bit, 1.5"/.5". I guess the T4R was set-up to deal with minor over-sizing in the 32" range.
