I know lots of people did this with the 4th Gen and the FJ Cruiser, but I am seriously considering going to a 255/75 C1 Load Mud Terrain or All Terrain. Help convince me...

...I definitely get the vanity thing though. I want spacers, but I also want bronze wheels. My budget doesn't want me to do either. LOL

The 75's should fit fine. They are almost an inch smaller than the 80s. I would think they would clear with spacers without much work if any. My 80's were fine until I put spacers on. I should preface this with my 4Runner has 3" OME lift and SPC UCAs.

Look into the Kenda Klever RT. I think they have a 33x10.5x17 size tire. Also BFG KO2's come in a 34x10.5x17 variant as well although they are pricey. Honestly I don't think modern 4wd suvs look good with tall skinny's. Wide(r) tires look better on a 4R IMO. I think the skinny tire look goes well with retro Defenders, FJ40/60/70 and maybe a 2 door Jeep.

yeah, I may add spacers, but I really want to give it a try for something different AND try a completely different tire - I've never run an MT. So, gonna be trying something all kinds of new before I get my gears installed.

I've heard good things about the Kenda Klever RT - especially in Road Noise. I may try those after this change.

Well... I went ahead and got the 255/75R17 Kumho MT71s in Load C.

While I love the weight of them, I'm not sold on the looks quite yet. I am going to go ahead and order a set of 285/70R17 Kumho MT71s in Load E - just to see them side by side.

In general, these are not that loud on the highway, the weight is great, the roll resistance is fair, ride quality is really good, and the traction is amazing on dry roads on gravel. ...its literally just the looks that have me questioning my choice. Yeah, I'm that guy. :frusty:

I really appreciate the fact that my local Discount Tire has been so patient with my indecisiveness.

Because they are skinnier? Maybe not as drastic as 235's, but leaning toward the cut through vs. float over mentality in tire upgrades? I can tell the difference visually.
