Pimp My Ride?

After finally taking ownership of a white 06 SE last night, I decided to start the journey into the aftermarket... Now after poking around here for a little bit I have came up with a list of things Id like to do. Feel free to add your thoughts or suggestions on anything that I left out or simply dont know.

1. Double Din radio, dvd capable, not sure on brand yet, or what I would need to make install go easy, will need something for steering wheel controls
2. Headrest monitors, I have actually been looking at some on ebay called TVIEW with a 9in screen for a couple hundred bux... Look decent enuff, I guess
3. Will be looking to install a back up camera, Not sure which route to go with. License plate mount or not?
4. Need suggestions on floor mats and cargo liner
5. Vent visors
6. LED light swap inside... Not really sure of all the info I need. Im guessing I can prolly find it on here though?

As of right now I dont have anything planned for the exterior, other than the vent visors... well and tint. Which brings me to my next question? What % is the back glass factory tinted to??? Id like to try and match my fronts to it...

1. I like a lot of the Pioneer stuff lately. You will need the steering wheel controls, surround kit, and wiring adapter. There's a few threads on it.
4. Get the weathertech liners. You can't get stuff under them easily and they're nicely molded to the floor.
5. I have vent visors and I wouldn't do it unless they're the stick on. The ones that stick into the window channel mess up tint on the edge of the window.
6. There's threads around here about the LED swaps.

I have my fronts tinted to 15 and it looks about right. The back is a bit lighter (probably more like 20) but with most of the light coming in the front window it looks about right.

Just a quick note on the tint. That was the first mod that I performed on my runner and I told the place to just match the rear. It came out to be 35% to match and it matches almost exactly the same shade as the rear. I wasn't happy with it at first as I wanted darker (I had 20% all around on my previous vehicle) but after only a couple of days it grew on me and looks perfect. One more thing to consider, if you do go the "match the rear" route, the factory tint has a reddish or pinkish hue to it from inside. The aftermarket tint has more of a true grey look. Again, it bugged me at first but it's not a big deal as it looks tight from the outside and I'm the only one who really notices.

Good luck with your mods, any plans to lift your runner? Look around this forum as there is tons of great info on lifts.

You can fit a 33 (285/65), but it takes a lot (about 4.5" lift total). You're looking at a body lift and a spacer or spring lift or a decent amount of cutting.

There are tons of DD aftermarket radios available. Pioneer is making some very nice stuff these days. Most of them will handle all of what you're looking to do, however the extra harnesses, adapters, etc can get expensive. I just bought a Pioneer 4300DVD myself. I got the HU for $399 on sale but the wiring kits, dash kits, antenna adapters, bypass relays, steering wheel adapter, were about $160. I do not have navigation, back up camera, or XM. So add quite a lot more for those options if you want them. Nav is about $400, XM about $100, no idea on the camera.

Floor mats, cargo liner, vent visors check into Weathertech. Order straight from the weathertech website. That is where I found the best deal.

For LEDs you'll want superbrightleds.com. Thats where I got everything. I did go to Sylvania's website and punch in my 4runner to get all the part numbers I needed. Then I made the order from superbrightleds. I think the LEDs from bumper to bumper were about $175

HID headlights is another popular aftermarket option. Another subject with tons of controversy with a huge spectrum on price range. I bought mine from DDMtuning.com for $40. IMO can't beat that with a stick.

Tint was also my first modification. I had the guy do 25% all the way around. He did do the rear also at something lighter so that it matched the front (35% maybe IDK). Looks awesome and cost me $140 I think.

33s will require a lot of lift. The lift/tire options will all be based on your driving style (offroad or not) and your budget. I assume you already know how huge the price range for this can be. If you want it for cosmetics only I'd suggest a simple spacer lift. Those are relatively cheap and will retain the stock ride.

Research some, figure out what route you want to go with and ask some more specific questions when you're ready to tackle each mod. Guys on here are extremely helpful and believe me, anything you wanna do has been done and documented. So just ask.

1. as for deck, make sure it says steering wheel compatible otherwise it wont work, and youll still need an adapter.
2. best buy sell a few headrest monitors with screens in them and there own headphones and dvd players, not to pricey either
3. the best back up cameras are ones that are mounted in the body. i like them because they are harder to steal. but this route is more expensive
4. not sure if your looking for rubber mats or carpet but i like husky liners
5. ive never bought these so i cant suggest anything
6. there is a guy on here selling led kits for any 4runner and they are cheap. he will even do the license plate lights and running board lights. his screen name is LJ_24. look him up and message him. let me know if this helps cant wait to see it

Hey good luck on ur search for fun. There r a lot of things to do believe it or not

DD radio

Pioneer makes some awesome double DIN radio head units. what i have in my '07 runner sr5 (Call her Stunner) is an AVIC-930BT. It's a Double DIN radio head unit that has ipod connectivity, bluetooth, GPS and a bunch more features that i dont even need on mine. a site was offering it for around $700 but i did some poking around and found the same one with a wiring harness, and the mounting brackets to fit it into Stunner for around $500. you can try SonicElectronix.com if you're Looking for some nice higher end DD radios.

Good luck with your mods man. right now ive gotten 5K HID headlights, foglights with LED accents going inbetween the foglights, that radio, two 12" kicker CVR subs, and im fixing to tint, install some aftermarket door speakers, hopefully lambo doors, a TRD spec tacoma supercharger, and an aerodynamic body kit. (i know im a dumbass for trying to do the last two things but hey, it'll make her unique lol)
