Very nice looking truck. With the SC and manual transmission, it may attract that guy or gal that just has to have such a unicorn. If there's documentation that the SC was dealer-installed at or very near original sale, that'll push it up, I would think. I'll say $18,500.

I think you guys are correct with a spread between $18,500 - $19,500.
If lower mileage I would say easily exceed $20K, not that the mileage really makes a difference on these 3.4’s but it does seem to have an affect on value.
BaT attracts knowledgeable buyers so one never knows.

The seller talks about "rock crawling monstrocities" on CL's, as if a well-modified 4R is a bad thing. I love my truck but honestly b4 I started modding it she was sort of a plain-jane daily driver. Reliable, yes, but nothing that put a huge grin on your face walking back to it across the parking lot. They do, however, provide an exceptional platform upon which to build a "monstrosity," which I think is where their value lies.

I smell fish on this one.

-look at the rear wheel arches, there are white plugs in the holes. Someone has stripped the flares off this one. If it never had flares, it wouldn't have the holes.
-cheap ass quick struts in the front
-aftermarket rad hoses, screw clamps, rad cap too (I think), battery terminals I bet not much OEM has gone back into this one.
-rust and/or damage on passenger fender bottom in front of the door
-new backing plates on a rusty rear axle, hummm...
-there is quite a bit of rust on the axle back portion of the chassis, rusty trailer hitch looks to have been recently removed.

I don't think this one is a gem despite the desirable options. I wouldn't buy sight unseen.

Edit: almost missed the pre-dented roof and the roof rack rails removed and no strips put back on. Hope they put the screws back in the holes. This shouldn't be a high dollar 4runner but likely will be.

Funny part is that same basic engine, the gutless 3.4 (in '01) will be powering the upcoming re-do on the tundra, plus a couple turbos. Makes sense, the 3.4 is probably the most durable engine, perhaps even more than the 5.7.

It needs lots of updates but I'm sure Toyo is up to it. Luck all, even if you don't believe it.

Seller has comments about roof rack and wheel opening trim posted, has flaws, 4 owners, hard one to guess here.

I started this to track market on 3rd's, new year first BaT auction I've seen, bang for the buck thing. My area people are paying more for less happily for 6 months.

Funny part is that same basic engine, the gutless 3.4 (in '01) will be powering the upcoming re-do on the tundra, plus a couple turbos. Makes sense, the 3.4 is probably the most durable engine, perhaps even more than the 5.7.

The only thing similar between the 5VZ-FE and the new twin turbo 3.4L (V35A-FTS) is the rough displacement. The V35A-FTS is a completely new design from a new family of Toyota engines.

-Rusty chassis (the plus is, this seller didn't spray paint the rust like other dishonest sellers)
-Front bumper does not appear original and does not fit correctly. Uneven gaps.
-Front bumper tow cap missing
-Roof rack missing (seriously?)
-Rust starting on rockers
-Flares are missing
-driver side lug stud missing


It's pretty obvious this truck was rushed in the 'resto.'

The standard for BaT vehicles keeps going lower and lower, and this truck is no exception.

Agree with everything you said, but just wanted to chime in on how the bolded part above makes me a little nervous as a 3rd Gen owner. I've seen this many times with folks expressing disdain for painted chassis and frames.

I've painted my frame (properly), even though it didnt really need it. I am hoping folks dont see me as dishonest when I go to sell one day because of it. It didnt even need painting. 98% rust free, with the only rust specks showing up on a weld here and there. Not nearly as much rust as this BaT 4runner.

Hope I didnt screw up selling potential by painting it! haha

This one does have some signs of being a bit, uh, prepped by the seller (a pro reseller). As was pointed out above it has some issues. An astute commenter on the BaT site pointed out an ECT PWR button - LOL. The seller then replied - 'the console may have been swapped out at some point......' Not one of the 1-owner babied survivors you often see on BaT. Not so confident in my $19.5 guess now, but will see what happens in the final hours of the auction.

Just a note here for you...
I am BIG into rust prevention. You can't really effectively paint INSIDE the frame where rust *really* starts.

I know some "black" products work well, but specifically choose "amber" as to not hide anything. (That is why most places that spray for a living use black).
