I experienced your Southeast regional angst for that exact vehicle. Did a nationwide search and could only find the one I wanted in CO. But they wouldn't negotiate at all. I didn't want to endure the special order hassle; so since I don't live in the mountain or western states, I looked for a Limited and found several in the northeast. Finally settled for a 2011 Limited, 4X4, Shoreline Pearl Blue, Black Leather, Nav, Sliding Rear Tray, Crossbars and haggled for $38,900 +ttl. It was in MD, so I flew into Dulles for $99 one-way (on a Sat morning) and they had it curbside waiting for me. Then made the 10 hour drive home. I still envy the Trail Edition but I'm totally spoiled by the heated leather now. I put tint on the fronts for $75 and found a set of running boards for $200. There's a tad much chrome on the exterior for my preference but I'm over it now. Overall, I'm glad I made the choice and happy with the price.

In Jan I ordered a Trail minus KDSS and Nav(I know where I'm going and how to get there.) I paid no deposit and the price was $400 under invoice(less than $34,000.) The vehicle arrived in mid April. I showed up, whipped out my Amex card, signed the paperwork and drove away. Toyota had raised the price $100 since Jan but I paid what was originally agreed. Until delivery, all transaction was via internet and telephone at Cain Toyota/BMW in Canton, Ohio. Use will be primarily as a hunting vehicle in the Nebraska Sandhills.
