Plasti-Dip your wheels?

Does anyone think this stuff will actually stand up to off-road abuse? If so, seems like one hell of an alternative to powdercoat or new wheels.

no, from what I have read it will not stand up the off road abuse. if it tears you have to peel the whole thing off and redo it.

I've had this on my grille for about 3 months and it is holding up very well with no chips yet (lots of rocks on the road here). I'm not so sure how it would do on wheels, but I would consider trying it if my wheels weren't already black. Got mine at Home Despot.

I sprayed my running boards(chrome too), front bumper (plastic parts only), rear bumper (plastic only), license plate surround, roof rack, and entire grill....looks good. I want to see how it holds onto the chrome and then might have some other plans. Makes everything look brand new.

I love this forum, I have been going back and forth about painting my wheels forever...but now that I see this I can finally do it without worrying about not liking it.

I am hearing alot of "I did this" on this topic but no photos to show us what you have done. Come on fellas, lets see the plasti in action.

Here it is on the grille. White dots are bugs, not chips. This is 3 months old, no fading yet with the intense UV exposure of living at 7000 ft elevation. I did not prep the paint on my grille before applying the Plasti-dip. I didn't even strip off the wax.

I'm in the process right now of spraying my emblems. We'll see how they come out. I'll post pics tomorrow when I get them on the 4runner. I found the plasti-dip at home depot. I'm crossing my fingers it turns out good. I might also spray the whole chrome part of the liscense plate holder in the back. Still considering that.

If you used this on the roof rack, is it strong enough not to scratch from tie downs?

So far so good. I think the stuff is pretty good at staying on.

I will try to get some pics up soon, just haven't had time.

Anyone that puts this on chrome, I would love to hear the outcome...I might spray my front and rear chrome bumpers. :jaw drop:

Do they come in Gloss Black? At my local HD only had matte black. Does clear coat make it "glossier"?

I put this on the rear tailgate chrome piece last night. went on very well and was so an easy process compared to regular spray paint. just not sure I like the color. I have a black truck and did regular spray for the front and plasti dip on the back. I will take pictures so you can see the difference. The front matches very well but the back obviously doesnt being the flat black. I also have a silver runner and am going to do the emblems in the plasti dip cause I think it will look good on a different color truck just not sure about the black on flat black.

Did you apply clear coat?

No, just the plasti dip itself. No clearcoat. I wanted to see how it looked by itself compared to the front first before I did anything else.

Please update if you decided on using clear coat. I want to do it on my grill but want to match factory paint as much as possible.
