Plasti-Dip your wheels?

Hey, Im a first timer here and been thinking of painting my 3rd gen wheels black for a while now but have heard it can be a never ending cycle of touching up rock chips. Anyone have any feedback on how this has held up so far or if it appears to be tougher than regular spray paint applications? Really like the look illzoni got with this. I have the old rusted out chrome bumper in back right now. Supposedly getting a new center section today. I may end up trying this stuff on the entire front and back bumper chrome sections if it holds up well. Might help prevent my replacement from rusting out as well.
 
Ok. this has to be the best thing for 4runners. I just googled:: " plasti-dip + wheels" and holy crap people are doing this on every car imaginable. Sport cars to SUV's. Plus someone even posted a pic of how easy it is to peal off if you don't like it. Now I'm thinking about what all I can spray with this. I might pich up a set of FJ wheels that have some scratches on them an make them look new. WOW!!!! Thanks for the info!!
 
Well, if it is "easy" to take off, then how useful is this on the rims of a off-roader?

Im betting not that useful. I bought a couple cans intending to paint all of my wheels but stopped after spraying my spare. Even w 5 layers its was easy to chip the plasti dip with my thumbnail. Looked great not rugged enough for me though. Maybe others will have a better experience on wheels. Having said that, it has held up great on my front grille.

Got two cans of Plasti-dip and plan on blacking out some chrome on the 4runner over Thanksgiving.

If I'm still ambitious, i'll do the spare that came in the puke green color.
 
Just Plasti-dipped the chrome on my mirrors today. Looked so good that I did the chrome on the running boards next. Then the fading tread on the running boards and rear bumper. I have to redo one of the mirrors though. I must have rubbed it when I was removing the blanket that was protecting the windshield from overspray. I'll be doing the chrone around the headlights and grill next, then I'll post pictures.
 
2nd gen guys

the chrome trim around the windshield always bugged me on my old 2nd gen-OC mike thanks for your post -got me thinking that would be a lot cheaper to do that windshield trim with plasti dip than replace it with black.
 
How will it hold up on the front with all the road debris that bouces off our frontends especially for those who have to deal with winter? I'd think the wheels would peel within a year and look like crap;I'm guessing the plasti-dip process would have to be repeated from time to time.
 
Well, I'm disappointed in the running boards. They are already starting to peel back after stepping on them a few times. Everything else that I sprayed is fine so far. I think I may need to use some other product for the boards though.
 
It is definitely not great for high traffic areas (running boards) but everything I have sprayed is great. Looks good...took it through the monster car wash with jet sprayed water and airplane engine air dry....looks great and came out like a champ.
 
I "plastic-dipped" my chrome grill. That thing is magic. Look great and easy to apply. I added couple clear coats to bring the gloss close to my black factory paint.
