Please Help Me Buy a TE

Coming from someone that has the NAV, it's nice and all but I whish I could have gotten one with out and put in a after market one. I know I can change it now, but I paid for this one may as well use it :)

Thanks jpowers. I am really just thinking about doing without but am still researching. What I am not sure about is if I can get a good sound system to replace the 8 speakers or will I need to make substantial modifications. Also I would really like a 4 or 6 CD changer. Will one easily fit or is it going to be a lot of trouble and cost.
 
Strange. This is the reply I received from my local Toyota dealer.

"I wanted to let you know that I received your inquiry for a Toyota 4runner Trail Edition in Silver. With the options that you gave me we would have to order one for you and that would take anywhere from 6 to 8 weeks. How soon are you looking to do get one? Let me know what I can do to help. Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you."

So they never found the one 150 miles away from me. I e-mailed him back with the link to that one to see what kind of price he offers or if he can even get it in for me. He offered to special order one for me. So I guess even with the unfortunate events in Japan it is still possible to do that. Has anyone heard otherwise? Thanks.

The dealer that has that silver TE may not be in the network of dealers your local dealer has aggrements to trade with, or they just are un-willing/un-interested in doing a dealer trade. When you make a trade like that your local dealer will have to give up something from thier own inventory. If I recall correctly my dealer had to give the dealer that had my TE a Limited for it.

This is exactly what I have been trying to find out. Exactly how this works. Thanks so much for explaining this. I have also been looking into the cost of transport in case I find a good deal further away. From the East Coast it might be under $1200 so that may be another option. I have contacted the dealer in Maryland to see if they will deal with an out of state purchase. Just thinking of all options. Thanks again.

Trails with KDSS and no Nav are hard to find, so if that is what you want, I would jump on it, particularly given the issues now in Japan.
 
Carmax in Md. has 2 2011 trail editions for $38600. These have a sticker of over $41000. They have nav and probably kdss. I have always thought their prices were fair. After looking at Edmunds, I saw that a base trail edition has an invoice (with freight) of nearly $34000. I don't think you are likely to beat a Carmax price on a new vehicle by more than a thousand dollars on a regular basis. Once in a while you may find a dealer who is aggressively looking to sell a vehicle and may offer a better deal, but those deals don't happen every day in all areas of the Country. If you use a combination of purchase tools (such as Edmunds, Carmax, etc.) you should have a good idea as to what a fair price would be. You also have to factor in the economic conditions which prevail in your area and the number of auto dealerships (competition).

i got my SR5 from a dealer about 1.5 hours south of where i bought it. They found it, and made arrangements with the other dealer to either buy it from them or swap it out. Long story short, once i gave MY dealer a $500 deposit. They sent a driver down to the other dealership to pick up my truck. It was on the lot within a few hours, and i signed the paperwork that night. My truck had 106 miles on it when i got it. No big deal.

I bought one. I would like to thank everyone very much for all the help. Also, Brad thanks for the Brown's Toyota recommendation. They gave me a "Buy Happy" price that I am very happy with and so I bought the Silver with KDSS and Navigation (and carpets :lmao:). I wasn't sure I wanted the Navigation but I knew I wanted a good sound system. I figured if I didn't get the Navigation I would have to put in an after market system so with a good price I thought I would just do it. I will have to have it transported so that is a bit of a drag but I have looked into several top rated companies and it can be done for just over $1000 all inclusive door to door.

Can't wait. There are so many trails I want to go on that I would never do with my Outback. Thanks again everyone.

Hey, well done on nailing down a Trail. The supply seems to be drying up. The folks at Brown were straight shooters when I went in there. I ended up with a better price up in Baltimore, but that dealer is out of Trails, now. I guess you have to make the most sense of your time, but with break-in considerations and costs, I would want to put those first miles on my own truck myself.

Also, I was dead set against paying for the Nav, but not one available here without. It's now one of may favorite features. Works great. And the stock JBL sound is also the best I've had in a vehicle.

Maybe have them pick you up at the airport.
 
Congrats man. My dealer called the other day to say they had located a silver TE for me. its just been built and is on a boat on its way over!

Wish i COULD get nav, its not available on the TE in Canada... :(

I was bored and just playing around, guessing you would fly out from Pheonix to Baltimore, the flight would be about $500, and guessing you would avg 20mpg, with a avg cost of $3.65 per gallon @2200 miles about $400 for gass, and that it would take about 2 days of non-stop driving. That transport price seems like a bargin.

Thanks and congrats to you too. I considered just ordering one locally but even though the local dealer said 6-8 weeks, I had the feeling it might be longer and that I wouldn't get a great price. So far everything has gone smoothly and I didn't even have to go to a dealer to buy.
