Please Help me choose front suspension setup,planning OME + Billies

Hello everyone,

Its more than 3 years now I won 97 Toyota Hilux kz-te, similar as 4runner 3rd gen, with 2 major differences: Diesel engine and right handed. I have lifted it 2 inches (suspension lift), but as long as I have added front custom made steel bumper + winch. The front has come down a little. front was lifted with spacers over stock coils and shocks.Rear was bumped up with LC 80 springs and LC 105 Shocks. rear is ok for me. yesterday after 8 hour mudding front left shock has started bleeding.So that's right time to be thinking of changing it.
I have in mind front setup with ome 883 (as they do not sag) (i wonder whether they will be to stiff for me?) + billstein 5100.
so here come the questions:
will ome 883 be too stiff and rough for me? should I go with 882 and say hello to sagging in a year or two?
Which billstein 5100 should I choose? I have heard Tundra ones are stiffer and more durable or should i go with just ordinary 4runner ones?

I plan to buy on toytec , is there any other cheaper and better option out there?

If you have the heavy front bumper i would go with the stiffer springs for sure...

My 882's and 90004's are for sale, I still haven't listed them. Just been busy. PM me if you're interested. Comes with topout spacers too if you want to use them. Shipping might be the deciding factor though since I'm in NorCal. :cheers:

i bought my 5100's from ajusa for $198 and change and shipping included.

I just ordered the same set up you're referring to for my 2001 4Runner. I went Tundra 5100 ($195 for Tundra; $155 for 4Runner) and OME 881 up front. I haven't done anything to my 4Runner yet, but intend to add a Shrockworks front bumper and winch in the relatively near future. I also bought the 5100 and some OME 906s for the rear. I'll post some before/after pics when I'm done (assuming I remember to take any).

Can you tell exactly what is the difference between tundra and $runner shocks? what caused to buy you tundra ones? do they need any modification before installation?

I can't tell you the exact difference because I've never seen them side by side or driven anything that would let me compare them. I can tell you that the Bilsteins/OME are substantially more rugged looking than the factory stuff. Dan at Wheelers said the Tundra ones are a little more durable/beefy. There are no special adapters or modification required for the installation.

When you order from Wheelers, they charge you exactly what it costs them to ship from their shop in Oregon to your address which is why you can't get a quote on their website. In my case, the package weighed 70lbs and cost me $71 shipped via UPS. If you have any questions, call their shop... They're happy to answer questions and explain the pros and cons of anything they sell.

No worries. I installed everything today and am very pleased with everything. It went in fairly easily and has a really smooth and comfortable ride. The whole reason I replaced all of my suspension was that one of my 6 week old Rough Country shocks died (and I'm OCD and like uniformity..... meaning mismatched tires, suspension, etc drives me crazy). When I say died, I mean it didn't have enough pressure to lift the rod past fully compressed even when laying on the garage floor. I installed my last set up as a low cost, quick fix to replace the original stuff that had 160k on it. In the end I decided to bite the bullet and just replace everything since I was gonna get dirty anyways.

Constants both before and after:
1.5" Daystar rear urethane spacer
BFG A/T KO Size 265/75R16

Before measurements and gear:
Tokico Trekmaster shocks with Ironman coils (front)
Rough Country N2.0 shocks, Toyota coils (rear)
Ground to bottom of front fender: 36"
Ground to bottom of rear fender: 36"
Ground to bottom of hitch receiver: 18"

After measurements and gear:
Tundra Bilstein 5100 shocks set on lowest possible height with OME 881 (front)
Bilstein 5100 shocks with OME 906 coils (rear)
Ground to bottom of front fender: 36"
Ground to bottom of rear fender: 38.25"
Ground to bottom of hitch receiver: 21"
