Please recommend brake pads and rotors for my 1996 SR5!

My T4R is a 1996 SR5 with 190k. The brakes are starting to feel like they are pulsing. I got the truck with 62k miles on it and have not done anything to the brakes since. It is a manual transmission and I try to use the brakes as little as possible, and am never hard on them. I would like some recommendations on new replacement pads and rotors and where is a good place to purchase them. Thank you for any help.

If you're planning on changing the pads and rotors, why not do the calipers as well and get tundra brakes? I upgraded mine and they stop SO much better than my old, warped, stock brakes.
 
Can't go wrong with OEM Toyota Parts either.

you haven't done brakes on it it in 130,000 miles? Holy geebus. Just a bit of an FYI, it's a lot easier to replace brake pads than it is to put a clutch in the truck if you're constantly downshifting to lower speed. Just my .02 though.
 
Yes that's right. No brake work done for 130k miles. It was not until recently that the pulsing of the brakes started. There is no squeaking. Thanks for the info. about the brake pads vs. a clutch. I'm looking to pick up new pads and rotors, if necessary, this week.

I have these on my truck and have been happy with them so far. I don't do a whole lot of driving though, I put 12,000 miles on the truck in 2 years.

heres a pic of them on my truck...

they have like 2x the power of the oem stuff IMO I really like them
plus I also have them on my 99 Range Rover and they are fantastic.

The stock calipers are fine. I have Wagner blank rotors from Advance Auto. However, I don't recommend their Thermoquiet pads. My Thermoquiets make a clicking sound inside the calipers. Go with Akebono pads instead. OEM is good too.
 
Buy TOYOTA brake pads and Rotors.

For any aftermarket brake pads, you need excessive force at the brake pedal to make a stop.

That's why you blip the throttle to match the RPM before you put it in gear. Heck, I rarely use my clutch except for starting off from a stop and shifting under high load (ie. downshifting going up a hill).
 
I don't know about the rotors, but I've replaced the brake pads on my wife's Altima with the PowerStop Evolutions and they work great. RockAuto has them for about $21. They have the rotor/pad kit (drilled and slotted) for $123 or $150 depending on which rotor size you prefer (297mm or 319mm). "Heavy Duty Truck & Tow" is about $30-40 more. It sure beats $80 for pads and $60x2 for rotors at Camelback or TRDParts4U.
 
Ive ran many different types of brake setups on a lot of vehicles and OEM seem to work best. Especially on our vehicles. OEM OEM OEM.
 
Have to disagree with these oem comments about brakes. Nothing wrong with aftermarket rotors or pads. I have the duralast gold pads and it stop good. But before you Install new rotors make sure you brake clean the rotors. They are little soaked in oil to prevent rust. Many people don't clean the oil before Installing and that ruins your new brakes. Plus , don't tailgate so you won't need to slam on your brakes !!! Keep safe distance and everything will stop. But feel free to buy oem, as it's your car your money.
