I found on ebay the 360 degree spray wand and tube that should fit on any standard aerosol can, it's only 15 bucks shipped. I think I'm going to order it and try using Rustoleum rust reformer with the spray wand on the insides of my frames. If it works, it would cost about half of what it costs to buy 3 cans of the eastwood product.

I've use the rust reformer in the past (and on my 4R) and it works very well. You essentially just need to get the loose stuff off and that is it.

I'll report back on my findings.

Would Eastwood's product be good to use on a brand new 4Runner? My T4R TE is a few weeks away (hopefully) and this got me thinking... maybe I should use the Eastwood product right away to prevent rust from ever forming?

Here's a shot with the cosmo and fluid film wiped off. You can see where I hit the bare metal with touch up paint after drilling. That was two winters ago. I'm going with the theory that greasy metal does not rust. I feel I lack the skills to properly prep and paint a frame, but I can apply fluid film and cosmo.

I've been undercoating my truck every year since I bought it used in 2004. The truck still looks mint to this day. I just did flex lines on my old girl 2 weeks ago, I was able to save both hard lines that go from the caliper to the flex line, as well as the other hard line on the other end of the flex tube, because I religiously spray this truck annually.

I don't use anything special... I don't pay a shop to do it, I just use my recycled motor oil.

BTW, when I rubbed off the years of oil and dirt off those hard lines... I saw factory grey paint on them.

if you have a new car, just fluid film. you should be fine. Main thing is to keep an eye on it, and look under your car 2 times a year. Rust doesn't just magically show up.

Fluid film is a great product... but recycled motor oil is free... and works just as well.

Here's some pics of my 4Runner.... she's a 98 with over 230 000kms on the odometer. She's spend her entire life in the salt belt, and when you compare it to other 4Runners from this area, mine is mint. Now, that being said, she had some rust on the undercarriage when I first bought it. The previous owner was a Doctor, and didn't really do any preventative maintenance on this thing. He used it to go to camp and such, and didn't care much about keeping it for a long time.

It's not perfect, it's not as nice as some of the trucks you SoCal guys have... but she looks pretty darn good for a 18year old Toyota!





Here are some close up pics of what my fender wells look like.... much of the bottom of the truck looks like this.... it's dirty... it's messy to work on... but it's a lot less rusty than other trucks around here, of the same era.
