popping/creaking noise on seats?

I'm at the dealer now for 10k. They're going to check the lumbar out. I'll probably open a ticket with Toyota too. I also have a fender trim over drivers wheel that's a tiny bit loose. Push on it with your finger and it moves a little bit Maybe just needs some adhesive. don't really want to be here all day so I'll he happy if they note these things for now. Otherwise, I love my 4runner!

Fixed in 5 minutes

I had the same problem on my 2010 SR5. I was able to fix it in 5 minutes with some wd-40.

Just find the zippers under the back corners of the seat and unzip one side. You'll see a contraption that looks like a wishbone. The popping comes from the joint in the wishbone. Spray it with a good amount of wd-40. While you are at it, spray some wd-40 on all the other stuff back there as well. Move the lumbar back and forth. Spray the joint again. Zip up the seat...

I've been creak/pop free for 2 months when my seat used to pop on every turn.

I have Limited 5th Gen, and with 10K miles.

My seat lumbar support cracks and moves and pops a lot.

I explained this to the dealer last week at my 10K service, and they seemed to take the concern very seriously.

The ordered a whole new set of internal seat back parts, and are farming out the repairs to a local auto upholstery firm.

Cory, I will check out your suggestion prior to the repair being done.

Given the dealer's (and the local Toyota rep's) willingness to replace the seat back mechanism, there may be something more than a lack of lubrication going on.

My 2014 seat creaks too!!!

I sold my 2008 4Runner Sport primarily because I could not live with the constant popping/creaking of the driver seat. It seriously annoyed the crap out of me. I failed to google the gen 5 for like issues before I purchased as it seems like the problem was never addressed. My 2014 has 2,000 miles on it and is a creaky son of a b*tch. Every time I stop, accelerate, or take a corner the lumbar makes noises. I've tried deflating the lumbar and it still makes the noises:yell:

I love this 4runner, but hate the creak more...please tell me Toyota has a fix for this.

BTW, I have a Base Trail (Cloth powered driver's seat)

there's a TSB, but Toyota claims production changes should've eliminated the problem past certain VINs: TSB 0051-12

if you can demonstrate the problem to your dealer, you could probably use the TSB as a wedge/incentive to get them to help you out.

Just to follow up with my creaking seat issue. Toyota agreed that it was an issue and replaced the entire seat under warranty. Took a few trips to the dealer, but in the end I have a new creak free seat.

Wanted to bump this thread back as the relevance is pertinent to all 5th gens. My latest 5th gen with 400 miles on the clock demonstrated serious creaks and pops in the driver seat. Being that my previous 5th gen had the seat assembly replaced by Toyota I pursued that remedy again, especially since I'm getting leather installed next week. Yesterday I went on test drive with a tech and was able to replicate the pops and creaks to the extent the tech was embarrassed. When we got back he told the service lead to order a new assembly for me.

For those of us who owned 4th gens this was an issue and the problem seemed to carry over to the 5th gens. After the TSB came out in 2010 you'd expect Toyota to make adjustments to rectify the issue, but that's not the case.

My new seat assembly will no doubt begin to creak too, but I feel it's important to not accept these issues. My hope is that with every new seat assembly replaced the problem becomes more noticed and an urgency to adjust the seat design is taken. It's been 12 years of creaky @ss lumbars in our 4Runners! For some it may not bother you, but for me its annoying and hard to ignore.

I guess my rant's purpose is to say, don't accept the creak (could be a catchy t shirt) and push for warranty replacements if your vehicle has this problem. Let's make this issue a priority for Toyota to redesign.

2017 4Runner

So we bought a new 4runner and about 1500 miles into the new vehicle the driver seat has starting making a popping sound while driving. Very very annoying. Things I’ve noticed. It only pops when the seat is all the way back. I am 6ft 4 so that’s the reason why my wife never noticed it driving. Also, I now can replicate the sound 100% of the time by just sitting in the seat and leaning forward and back. Seams to be coming somewhere near the rails closes to the door. Has anyone found an exact location because I have yet to pinpoint the exact spot it’s coming from.
