popping/creaking noise on seats?

I've noticed a lot of creaking and popping sounds on the passenger side, too, especially when my wife sits there. It's usually followed by a pungent smell.

same here, i have about 7, 000 miles on mine and it has become more noticeable, if i have the lumbar support engaged more than about a third, it will pop as i push back on it. if i do not use the lumbar support, then it doesnt make that pop. i was going to bring this up this week when i bring the 4runner back in for the terrible transmission lag i am still experiencing...

Seat belt

Anyone have any issues with the seat belt buckle creaking when you have the seat belt on? If I hold it it doesn't make noise. Obviously not ideal.

2010 TE with KDSS and Nav. 6K miles. Mine squeaked and poped from day one, mostly when I took off from a stop. I have to keep my Lumbar support completely deflated and it goes away 100%. I wish I could inflate it at least 1/2 way. Not into the sorry dealer taking apart my seat, so I'm going to live with it. The service dept at my dealership is the worst I've ever had the pleasure doing business with.

I definitely also have this lumbar issue in my limited. Wish I'd seen this thread earlier but I've been off the forums for a while.

it pops/creaks all the time when I lean back. I have ~9500 miles

Well, I 'think' I FIXED my seat!!! You can see above I posted about mine doing the creaking/popping thing a while back. Well, all I did was fully 'inflate' the lumbar support as I was driving, you could hear the seat really get loud and make noise, I did this about 3 or 4 times, the more I did it the less noise it made. I have it set about 1/2 way and it has been silent for the past 4 or 5 days now! I made sure to go all the way then hold it for a few seconds after as well. Who knows, maybe these things need to be 'stretched' out? This worked for me.....so far.....I will keep my fingers crossed. Maybe it will work for a few others out there!

I took mine to the dealer and they "adjusted" it. Noise seemed to go away for about a week or so.

Next, I tried a variation on westwind77's fix. I inflated lumbar fully when I ran out the store last night and left that way overnight. When I got in this morning, I reduced the lumbar to a comfortable position and drove about 30 minutes with no noise. We'll see how long it lasts.

I have a 2010 4Runner, bought in June 2010, about 3 months ago began this same thing. No audible sound, but it is an incredibly annoying crackly feeling behind my back. I'm 5 foot, 120 lbs so it isn't a size issue. I've spoken to dealership; they researched it and said that there is nothing from Toyota on the issue. It is horrible and I am nearly wanting to just return the thing. There is a second individual in my area (PDX) who is having the same issue, same dealership. But if we replace the seats, I imagine this same thing will be happening in another 8 months. . . since obviously Toyota hasn't deemed it necessary to do a recall, or a redo. Every day here that is over 54 degrees it does it. Every time you change your weight distribution (leaning, accelerating) Totally ruining my toyota experience!

I've been having the same issue with my 2010 Trail. Had it in to the dealer a couple of weeks ago and they were able to feel the crunching that I was experiencing even though it's somewhat intermittent. It seems to happen more in warmer weather for me.

Anyway, they ordered some replacement parts for the seat frame/lumbar support and took the seat apart yesterday to install the new parts. It sounds like taking the seat apart is a real pain but they did a good job and it looks and feels fine. Definitely felt more solid and I didn't feel any crunching yet but only time will tell if it is "fixed.". The dealer mentioned they have another customer with the same issue and they are getting parts for them as well.

The parts they are replacing are exactly the same parts originally in the seat so I'm not convinced this will address the problem. They did mention that there was nothing that they could seen in the parts they removed that would seem to be causing the crunching.

We need everyone to open a ticket to Toyota at the dealerships on this issue, and also have someone report back if it came back after replacing the seat or fixing it.

I noticed the crunching immediately after I purchased my limited. I recently went to my local dealer and they replaced the entire frame of seat, not the seat itself. I driven a few hundred miles after the repair and the crunching appears to be completely gone, hope that's the end of that issue.

I had the same problem. I created a different thread about it before I got familar with this site and the search function. Anyways, I had my seatback replaced by the dealership and it was fine but now its been about 2k milesish and its happening again. Dont know what to do now.

hi all, any suggestions what to do? it annoys me so much i basically cant use the lumbar. its an uncomfortable feeling while driving, i think. does toyota know about is?

definitely bring it to your dealer, and perhaps open up a case with Toyota HQ as detailed here: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/79166-lumbar-support-crunching-4.html#post805289

my dealer has looked at mine, but i haven't yet brought it back in (to leave it with them) so they can muck around in more detail. there were multiple TSBs for this exact same issue throughout the life of the 4G... so Toyota has a good starting point for finding a solution to this ongoing problem.
