Por 15 rattle can

I have a brand new 4runner and am thinking about using some Por 15 rattle can as a preventive measure for rust. I do no live on the coast or the rust belt so i don't need any fluid film style under coat. Has anyone used this stuff before , or have any recommendations as to what to use ?

My suggestion.....POR 15 the welds on the frame then coat the chassis in Fluid Film or Wool Wax.

I would not coat a frame in POR 15 unless I had it out of the truck on a stand and 100% clean.

If the surface is not perfectly prepped and I mean spotless...POR 15 will flake off.

I haven’t made the time to get under the 4Runner, but I did this to my Tacoma. Honesty, all I did was clean up the welds and any spots showing metal or surface rust and used the liquid POR-15 with a brush as it is really easy to apply and no overspray. Having done an entire frame in it on another truck, I’d recommend against doing the entire thing and having a bunch of cans of Wool Wax, I really don’t like the oily coating over everything but some people seem to swear by it.

Por15 only have their primer and top coats available in a rattle can and both of those require you properly prepare the surface you want to spray

i don't suspect it's going to be as easy and convenient as youre thinking

I have been down in the central "ssipp" for about three years and used fluid film rattle cans to coat the under carriage 6 months ago. Mostly in preparation for going back to a state that has winter. Did a nice thin coat and it covered well, looks great, simple to apply, but it does catch dirt and makes it messy when wrenching. Did my sliders with the POR system (cleaner, self etch, and primer) and wouldn't want to do it on the frame unless the body was removed. Just my .02.

I e used por-15 on a couple projects and overall I’m not impressed. It forms a very hard, glassy looking finish, and I think this contributes to adherence problems. When metal flexes and the paint on it does not, the paint falls off. I’ve tried aspho treatment followed by marine grade primer with great results.

All of that said, I use rattle-can black paint on all my 4R frames, LCAs, axles, etc annually. I generally get a small amount of new rust each year, but the paint seals it well enough, is cheap/easy, and looks clean.

Avoid applying anywhere "visible" as POR 15 is not UV resistant. The clear stuff will yellow very quickly. I assume the black fades, but can't say for sure.
