Lighten up, hoss. Sometimes anecdotes are just that.
Ahh, just saw this thread.
997 owner and PCA member here. I'm not going to lie - the P-car crowd can be a fussy bunch, at least based on their online personas.
Not sure if it matters, and it pains me to say this as we're all destined for baldness and/or greyness, but every time I've gone to a PCA meeting I seem to be the youngest person there by at least 10 years... and I'm in my early 40s.
My PCA chapter is very active in driving events which is great.
When I go to a T4R meetup (SoCal T4R is very active) I feel like I have more in common with the crowd, regardless of age.
In the wintertime here you can't swing a dead cat without hitting some sort of exotic, and I find the owners are generally to one extreme or the other. They're either complete pricks that won't even say "good morning" or they'll stand around and talk to you about cars for hours.
Several years ago I was sitting outside a bar at the beach with my GF, and I saw a Porsche turn the corner about a block down. 911s are as common as Civics here, but this one looked different. As it got a little closer it dawned on me that I was looking at a 959. I'd never seen one anywhere except in magazines, so I kicked the GF and said "Holy shit that's a 959!!" The guy was right by us at that point and had his window down and heard me. He laughed out loud and gave me a thumbs up. It was Bill Gates.ound:

Tell me about this meetup, please. Is it open to everyone?
When and where?
Thanks!
The only porsche I would ever own.
I can kinda see why, but a 959 is a museum piece. You can't drive it. It's worth too much money.
993 values are so inflated now that even they are becoming borderline garage queens, too risky to take out to track days and the like.
Porsches were meant to be driven. Try driving a 987.1 Cayman S. Super cheap car these days and I guarantee there is 100% chance you'll smile at least once on your test drive.
While I kind of see your argument I would refute, that if I owned it it would be to drive it. Why not share that piece of rolling art with others while driving around?
