Hey,
I think your TT might be what i would want to have when i am camping AFTER i get me another truck. I do love my 3G,but there are times when it does not want to get out of it's own way. I'm not a speed demon either.. but i do eventually get to where i am going. I know once i get moving she rolls right along. I do think it might have something to do with the larger tires.

I am glad that you have taken the precautions that other have not. I see all summer here on LI people who get a nice TT and tie it it to the smallest SUV they can find and off they go.I do realize that some TT'S are lighter than they used to be and that some small SUV'S can do a good job... I guess here there are not many hills and is basically flat. I like to have some l extra space.. 15% or something like that?

I am originally from LI, Lynbrook in southern Nassau county. But, I moved upstate in '78 to get away from the crowds, commuting traffic, and taxes. Winters are interesting, but I wouldn't move back for anything.

Well good for you!! I know a lot of people who have done the same thing. I came close , but i like Long island. I dont really know why but i like it here.. I also love the city- that might be the reason when the temp drops below 60 I say i'm going to move down south. I love the peace n quiet of being up state but i also love the hustle and bustle of manhattan. Lynbrook i'm sure has changed since you left. I think you made the right choice- but then again you did not need me to tell you that right?

2006 Carson Rebel Toyhauler - 14' Box

We got some nice setups on this thread, so I thought I would add a few pics that I have. I have a 06 Carson Rebel toyhauler, its a 14' box or 16 or 17' with the tounge.

Its about 3200 dry weight and I used to tow it with my 3.4 Tacoma and it did OK but could tell my motor was working hard on hills. As we started loading it with more toys we decided we needed something bigger. Thats when the V8 4runner came in, it tows this thing VERY easy. I dont worry when towing as much as I used to which is a HUGE relief. I do have a equilizer/stabilizing hitch which helps level things out.

I might upgrade to a 16-17' toyhauler if the family grows and think the 4runner will be able to tow it just as good.

Nice looking rig! You shouldn't have any problem with something a little bigger my trailer is supposed to be 3700 dry wt. and 4700 loaded. I don't know if its just the picture but it looks like you might need some adjustment to your hitch because it seems like the rear end of your runner is riding a little low. Once I figured out my weight distributing hitch it barely dropped the rear end 1" and my front end dropped 1/2" with a 450 lb. tongue wt.

No, it must be down.

The Trailmanor uses aircraft tech to produce a trailer that is half the weight of an ordinary trailer of the same size. It is constructed with two pieces of aluminum sandwiching polystyrene (light and super strong). There is no wood used at all. I keep it in my driveway and it will fit in a standard garage. It is 18' long with swing hitch used and 27' opened. It has ALL the goodies and is VERY plush/comfortable. Trailmanor's only use the top components. This trailer can be used in any climates (Alaska to the beach in the Keys). No one else makes anything like it. It is a little pricy but it is worth every penny!

Here's my 4th Gen V6 towing our 2011 Jayco Pop up. Compared to my old 2nd Gen that I used to tow my 14' Lund full of camping gear. I barely notice it back there I also use a Tekonsha P3 brake controller...

Haha, an Airstream! Thats awesome! How much does something like that weigh? I got a special place in my heart for vintage campers. Problem is most of them are too heavy for my 4Runner to pull on a long trip.

That Airstream is in great shape for 40+ years old, Has the interior been cared for as well as the exterior has? Airstream still makes great campers although they are quite expensive, at a recent RV show I attended they where selling for about $45000 in the mid 20 foot range.

Thanks! It weighs 3400 pounds dry with a tongue weight of 400 pounds. It pulls pretty darn well all things considered. I wouldn't pull one longer than 23' or one weighing more. Loaded down with camping supplies it's closer to 4k pounds. I don't travel with water in the fresh water tank - that's just too much weight.

On my last trip out to Kansas from Georgia I averaged 11 mpg.

I've thought about selling the Safari and buying a mid '60's bambi, which weigh less than 2k pounds, but I've put a lot of work on our AS (his name is Moe - we bought him in Missouri - MO). He's pretty darn cool.

Thanks! The folks we purchased it from in Missouri in 2009 really did a fine job of caring for it. The inside was very clean considering it's a 41 year old trailer that has been toted down the road a bunch. It has been used and loved. It's pretty cool. Doesn't get much better than that IMO. :cheers:
