Post Your JBL Settings......

That is so odd. Mine has it and mine's older.
Hmmm, the button says Surround, and if you turn it off, the sound is terrible, with with Surround on it's just awesome. Maybe that's why others here don't like the sound, and without the surround ya know what it is tiney!
K, I'll be late to the N.CA. meet, but I'll show you then.

You're probably correct in an automotive setting, but in the high-end audio world, the proper stereo setup, with very good speakers, amplification, and front end (digital or analog) provides a far more realistic (imho) soundstage - with the right recording - in stereo. With the right setup, in the right room, your ears hear an expansive soundstage - instruments & voices come out of a wide, deep area that doesn't identify where the drivers (speakers) are. And I think it would be difficult to find any classical, or closely miked jazz, recorded in "surround sound" - it's recorded, generally, in stereo. Listen to a pair of Martin-Logans - close your eyes, and the speakers completely disappear into space. You can't identify an individual speaker - the two of them create a soundfield that is amazing... sounds come from seemingly far behind the speakers, in front of, and to the right and left of the speakers, with a thoroughly filled in front & center. And just to make this as flameworthy as possible, Bose ain't high end - it's just very good marketing. JBL isn't either...they are great high power concert systems, but certainly not remotely close to high end in the home or home theater realm. DSP creates additional information - channels - that aren't in the original recording (unless it is a rare recording done in multiple channels). Look at the Lexus Mark Levinson systems - and then look at Levinson's ultrapremium home systems. Any processing there is done to compensate for the acoustics of the automotive environment.

I guess, in essence, this is all completely and totally up to the individual listener and their subjective tastes - I just like the JBL system in standard stereo.

Yeah, I completely agree.
I owned a small commercial recording studio and know my way around pro audio.
The fact is plain old red book audio is a two channel system, meant to represent a stereo sounstage like you said. I haven't found a dsp system yet that I like. Just give me a good clean preamp and amp and the audio will sound the most natural.
I'm not a fan of Bose home systems at all (Lifestyle etc.) but I find they do a pretty unobtrusive job in their car systems. Maybe I just like the sound of their amps. I had a Maxima and a Trailblazer SS that had Bose and I find they are the only systems I don't need to tweeak alot to get a fairly natural sound.

Wow, that's a lot of radio info there!
Guess I'm clueless when it comes to electrical components, and radio technology.
So my response is based upon a person who loves music, all kinds depending on mood.
If I'm in my rocker mood, bass is up to 4 or 5, the others are 4 or 3, and I have it tweaked a little over more so to the drivers side. And I do have surround on.
:rocker:

Thanks.....You're the only person who actually answered the question.

Unfortunately this thread went out into left field.....:nono:

I Asked for the time of day and got instructions on how to build a nuclear clock :bash:
