Thanks. I had bought a new set of Destination ATs in 265 / 75 16 for my old Taco and liked them so much that I transferred them (at 15,000 miles) onto my Xterra when I bought it. Had them do it while I was signing the papers - the 40 mile test drive on the brand new OEM Rugged Fails was enough to convince me of their suckage. That set of "used" Firestones then took me on a 8,000 mile trip of the US including a ton of high speed freeway, twisty mountain and coastal 2 lane, lots of bad gravel, and some legit off road stuff in Moab and Colorado. I found them to be the perfect tire for everything I was doing.

They also have a 50,000 mi tread, are nice and smooth, quiet on road, good traction in everything but a mud bog, and cheap.

I really like them and can't say enough good about them. I think most people buy tires they don't need for stuff they won't do. I'm more practical than that.

Stance of your truck looks great with those tires. I just had a set of Destination AT's in 275/70/17 Load Range C installed last week, replacing a set of BFG KO's, and really like them. Took them through their paces on a very muddy deer hunt this weekend and they did very well. Over the initial 600 mile drive I'm impressed so far. Was hesitant to buy Firestone due to their problems years ago, but there were so many positive reviews I took a leap of faith. How do the E's ride?

Sure do noticed a difference, brake dive is not elimited but greatly reduced. The overall ride is much better, my side to side wondering is also reduced, the 4R just drives tighter, better than off the lot. I get a post lift alignment Tuesday.

How is the ride quality with the spacer? Any regrets? any reason you didn't go 3" front? Thanks.

It's fine. No noticeable difference, honestly. I expected to have a worse ride and I was kind of okay with that to get a cheap lift, but so far I have no complaints and am actually quite pleased. I'm sure a $4k Icon suspension is a gazillion times better but this is fine for my purposes!

I went with 2.5" for two reasons, I didn't want to risk negative rake and 3" is right on that line, and I didn't want any issues with UCAs / CVs / etc and 3" is about the max before you start needing to replace other stuff. Toytec recommends 2.5" max for 5th gen, also.

I think the 285's were the right choice, they really make the truck look more aggressive even in the AT tread, and they add 1/2" of ground clearance over the stock size.

Lift is the basic and cheap Toytec 2.5" front spacer and 1.5" rear spacer. There is still a 1/2" of positive rake which is fine by me, but it's mostly level.

I guess I can post pics in this thread now even tho the "lift" I installed this weekend was only the Toytec front top plate spacer (P/N: TOP1-T). I basically wanted to level it out a little while keeping the Xreas (at least until it needs replacing :naughty It's still not fully level, but better than before.

Thanks, see a few posts above for my thoughts on them. Summary: I love them. Did a trip out west with them and they handled everything with aplomb. Fuel economy is about the same, maybe a hair less measured using the truck's MPG gauge but you also have to factor in that they are spinning around less so the MPGs read 1.4% low (I think, using the tire size calculator on Tacoma World).

Thanks! And yea, it was definitely better to ask forgiveness than permission..But then again she had to know it was coming... I traded in a white lifted 3rd gen when I got this one

She's dirty and needs a bath but I'm very happy with the results. This truck fits all my needs. I hope Toyota keep pumping the technology into the 4R.
