Mine is going to be similar to [MENTION=92884]snivilous[/MENTION] satoshi in that mine is like the Raptor grilles too. I'm just waiting for the letters to come in now. Mine will say "TOYOTA". I even have the rectangular mesh, the only thing I don't have is the channels because I don't have a way to make those bends cleanly like the Tacoma Raptor ones do. I used the same mounting method that [MENTION=44220]BigFishAllDay[/MENTION] used, and it is super strong. I'm super happy with how this came out, I think it looks super clean. I should have my letters in here sometime soon. I can't wait. Here's a few pics for now and I'll get some more once I get my letters in.

So the chrome on my grill is starting to bubble. Is it too late for the satoshi mod?

I originally bought mine off a member here, the outside of the grille had been modified and I just needed to install the mesh that had been precut. I was debating on having the FJ Toyota emblem, or leaving it blank, and I had seen zopperman used a 4Runner emblem which was cool and unique and I had seen the Tacoma Raptor grilles, so using our 3D printer at work I printed some letters for mine. I like it since it's unique and I haven't seen any other grilles like it. Nothing fancy, the letters were 3D printed with black plastic and then I painted them and just epoxied them onto the mesh. I've debated on painting the chrome black or color matched white, and also debated on doing a white outline on the letters or doing them white or silver since they're kinda hard to see in poor lighting...

What kinda led bar mounts are those ? What size led bar ?

If chrome is bubling. Just sand it of and paint it black.

I put bondo on the edge of grill to give it a rounded look because our grill has like a edge.

It's a 50" bar, the mounts I made out of 1/8" steel. Nothing fancy, just triangularish shaped from the side and then I bent them in a vice and use two self tapping screws (same as all the ones on the frame) to mount into the door frame underneath the door seal.

Got it paint matched to my custom salsa red pearl/metallic. Now I just have to add the mesh then my devil horns.

So when yall are making your cuts what do you do to seal up the giant holes that the center cross bar leaves in the main frame of the grill?

I cut a small rectangle of rain gutter mesh (for the eves of your house) and epoxy and attached it to the backside of the cutouts of the cross bar. I then backfilled the openings with bondo. I also bondo'd the seam between what was chrome and what was black, all around the opening of the grille (even the two gaps in the lower corners). Pics are in my profile's photo album. Be patient, it will take a while to sand out.

Those are super cheap fogs from Amazon. I think if you type in "6 LED" into the amazon search I bought the cheapest ones. it was something like $22 shipped. They do the job but don't expect the road to be like daylight. Mostly I bought them as rock lights to light up next to the vehicle at slow speeds which they do indeed do well.

They do fit with the valance on, I am debating whether I like the look better with the valance on or off and I think I may put it back on here shortly.

Painting the chrome frame

I'm getting ready to do my '97 factory grill and its the factory chrome color. I'm looking for advice from you painting experts out there.

What kind of prep do I need to do to the chrome to make sure that the black paint sticks to it and doesn't come off a couple months down the road?

The chrome is in good shape, not chipping or anything.

Is there a rattle can of something I can buy to spray first that will help the black paint stick?

I plan on sanding my chrome off. Mine is bubbling, and no prep or primer to the chrome will keep it from being bubble free forever.

I made two different ones, not sure which I like better yet.

For this one the toyota badge was originally white on the inside and black on the outside so I went through with a paintbrush and painted the inside black and outside white. I really like how this looks with my LED's on.

This one is made of aluminum that I cut with a waterjet and then brushed. The picture doesn't really do it justice... It turned out a little larger than I had intended, but still turned out pretty good.
