Potential Headlight Defect

This really ticks me off. My Tacoma's headlight looked great after 6 years with only occasional polishing.......I'm not seeing that happening with the 4runner. The plastic does seem cheap/ thin compared to my previous vehicles.

Hey Guys,

I had the same problem, and it got considerably worse with sub-zero temps and night driving. The dealer replaced them and it has been two months and more sub-zero temps, with no clouding so far. I think they are a bit different also the front lens seems to be clearer... or maybe cleaner haha, but I'll let ya'll kow if any clouding shows up.

Foggy Headlight

I just took my 2010 Trail in for tire rotation and an oil change. While it was in for service I talked with the Asst Service mgr about the foggy headlights. He took pics and sent it to the regional Toyota rep. The rep responded back and stated that 2 new headlights will be ordered for me and a service bulletin will be released to dealer! That is awesome news because my warranty is expiring March 2013. I love my 4 Runner but the quality seems to have gone down. I have had the entire front passenger seat replace due to power seat problem, driver's seat cloth had seperated and the foggy headlight. I am glad all these issues were addressed and my Toyota dealer service dept (Leesburg Toyota) has been great.

So....do we have a TSB for the headlight hazing issue? I was thinking of taking the truck in for service and to get the lumbar issue dealt with... was hoping that having this TSB would help to get that issue fixed too!

Bump. I'd like to know too. I've only got about 4k of warranty remaining...Mine are real hazy.

FWIW, the headlights I got for my retro (Depo brand) have not had this issue and they've been on for about 2 months

Bump bump!!

I posted the link to this thread on Toyota's 4Runner facebook page...perhaps someone will take notice. I wonder if Rav4 owners are having the same issues, since their headlamp housings are shaped somewhat similarly, with the flat edges and whatnot. I'm definitely subscribing to this thread.

Hey 300k4R,
Your headlight topper mod looks great. If you don't mind can you tell me what kind of film you used and where you got it? Also any install pointers would be much appreciated!
Thanks

Brought my '11 TE in today for 25k service and had them check out my foggy headlights. Service Manager suggested it was normal/condensation and that it would go away. Explained to him that it does not, and he said he'd put a note in my folder and I should bring back in a week to show that it hasn't improved. So I called the Toyota customer service line as suggested in this forum, and the rep sais there were no bulletins for my vehicle about this. Will take back to dealer in a week.

Also have a nail in sidewall of tire - dealer said I'd need a new tire not a plug. $231 for the tire, plus mounting, etc = $295. No thanks.

I did the same at my 20k mile service. They noted it and tried to clean it. I detailed the truck this weekend and the headlights are still the same.,hoping for some resolution at 25k.

My dealer is replacing mine, I have 13k on my TE and about 1.3 yrs old. They are also doing my seat creaking.

When I called the service department, he said it was considered a "normal wear" issue and would have his techs "restore" it for the bargain price of $120.

Toyota Service Bulletin on foggy headlights

Last July 2010 at my 12 month service I pointed out the foggy top of the headlight lens...their response was to wax the headlight lenses. It looked better for a day. Just got back from 24 month service, I put the foggy headlights on the list of things to check again, expecting to get the wax job again. I wasn't planning to argue about it. Anyway, they tell me there's a Toyota Service Bulletin out on this - TSB 0081-12, and that they ordered new Headlamp Assemblies and will call me next week when they arrive to set up appointment for replacement. Said they have an improved version that won't fog up.

Sounds like Toyota headquarters has acknowledged the problem and done something about it.

Took my TE for the 20,000 mile service , they replaced my headlights and did a tire alignment ( 2nd one under warranty) since I got new Falken Wild Peaks.

Will see how long this new headlights stay clear.
