Powdercoat, Paint, or Plastidip my new FJ rims??

Looking at advantages and disadvantages of each for a set of 2007(ish) FJ 17" wheels.

Powdercoat:
durable, lots of color choice, most expensive, (must un mount and remount tires)

Paint:
Less durable, not as expensive, lots of colors

Plastidip:
Inexpensive, kind of durable, but easly touched up!.. not many color's..

Anyone have any other thoughts??

Go with plastidip first to see if you like it. I'm going this route before eventually powder coating my rims if I like the look. I am not a fan of just painting them, would rather do plastidip or powder coat but that's just me.

3-4 coats of plastidip, paint over it.

still maintains its removable properties (although not as easy as just plasti) and is also self leveling so it will disguise any nicks.

Ya just dip em different colors I know black but maybe smoke ! If you like it PC , maybe it grows on ya or not.

What color is your runner? I like the black plasti-dipped wheels on silver and white runners. I've had mine done for almost a year now and they've held up great. Best part is, if you don't like it, peel it off!

powdercoat.... just make sure you know what color you want to go with.

Plasti-dip. I painted my wheels black at one point and got sick of them. Had to buy a new set to get back to OEM.

definitely plasti-dip them, take your time and do a good job and you wont be disappointed. take the wheels off and put a good 4-5 coats on. you can always undo plasti-dip, you cant undo powdercoating or painting without significant work and money.

you can always powdercoat after if you decide to go that route. you'll only be out the cost of a couple cans of plasti-dip.

Color

My 4Runner is Shadow mica (love that almost black with a full spectrum of other colors!!) I currently have Plastidip'd stock 17's on there... looks really good!

Old picture before i dip's the center caps. I like the matte black on the shadow mica..was contemplating gunmetal or something similar...

Looking at cost.. i am thinking of some more plasti dipping action...but a really good clean and get both the outboard and inboard sides of the wheels as best i can!

Absolutely powder coat!

Of course I am biased but this is the best technology for your wheels!

Be sure you have them professionally powdercoated! For your color this may be a good option:

Really depends on what your longer term plans are with the vehicle.

Post revival.
I'm getting ready to plasti dip or maybe duplicator my wheels tomorrow. They have weights on them from being balanced. Guess I just leave them (weights) on and when I get new tires down the road, I'll just have to touch them up? Same thing if I go w/ the ol rattle can?

I got my FJ rims powder coated flat black for 200 then plastidipped the center caps and cut the logo out of it with an exacto. I'm happy. I asked for stick on weights when I got them mounted.

Media blast them, then powder coat 'em.

If you plasti-dip them, dont make the same mistake I made and put to little on. I used a can per 2 wheels. When I had to peel it off it was a nightmare. I already bought enough for a can per wheel, plus a can for all the center caps, for when I do them again.

I went plasti dip.. they have been holding up great for 3 years running!! A nice tip.. on the center caps, you can actually pop out the Toyota emblem, plasti dip that separately, then paint over the dip whatever color you want! Ended up with a metallic midnight blue color that matches the front grill emblem!
