power antenna

I have a 98 4 runner. I have replaced the antenna mast but the antenna motor only runs for a couple of seconds up or down. It only runs for this length of time with the new mast in or out of the motor housing. I do hear a click in the dash where the radio is when this occurs. Any ideas this is driving me crazy

you mit have a broke cord from the old mast in side the motor jamming things up.
