power outlets?

Is there really just one cigarette lighter-style power outlet in the front of the 2004 4Runner? I know there's one in the cargo area.

Where does the second one go? I test drove an '04 last night and saw that there was an optional AC outlet in the center console box.

I can't believe they'd design it with just one- especially since my '00 had THREE.

If you buy the ashtray you will get a second 12v outlet. The one in the center console is a 115v outlet.

Ah, ok. Anyone installed the ashtray? what's it look like?

I have a cell phone charger and a radar detector- I guess I could hardwire the radar detector... it's just odd that they'd only put one in. :( I could always use the cell phone with the 115v AC outlet, but that's kinda silly...

edit: OK, I found it... Toyota's website says it goes where the cupholders are- but it defintiely looks more like it goes where the 12v outlet is- next to the shifter (where the t-case lever SHOULD be!)

I guess this is the only option... I can't believe Toyota would make a mistake like this! Americans love cupholders and 12v power outlets.

It replaces the compartment and 12v outlet that is already there. You don't lose cupholders or anything else.

I just ordered the "ashtray" kit for about $70 and it was easy to install... It took less than 10 minutes.

There is another thread where some others provide excellent instructions... but all you need to do is open the center armrest storage compartment and push up the center console trim, starting from the rear and moving forward. The trim is just held by clips. You then can remove the old lighter unit by removing a few screws. The new unit goes in and then you reconnect all the wires and you put the trim back and you are all set.

It's much better having 2 outlets and as a bonus, the second outlet is surrounded by an illuminated ring making it easy to see at night. It is an easy and helpful upgrade.

You're very welcome! I also bought the Oak All Weather floor mats for $31.20. I don't understand their mixup in prices and years, but I did get the right mats at that price. Go figure!:)

Just to clarify

Just to clarify- the $36 option that is linked replaces the current outlet & has 2 outlets? I only see one in the pic (cig lighter), but is there another one not visable? Sorry about the ignorance.

Great picture, Chuck- thanks a lot. Now why isn't that thing STANDARD?? I'm not a smoker, but I use both lighter outlets all the time! The salesguy and I were baffled that we couldn't find a second outlet- he said that even the Corollas have two. It's in a bad spot, too- my radar detector cord will be intrusive. Really dumb, Toyota.

You're welcome. I like the ashtray for a small, removable trash receptacle, too. It won't hold much, but what the heck........:)

.

I agree...Great pic & wow- timely service. I think I'm going to pic this up. I'm sick of unplugging my radar det. when I need my phone charged.

Installation?

I just ordered an ashray kit. Is it easy to "power up" the second outlet? Is the wiring right there?
