Power steering leak/steering rack

Every couple weeks I'm having to put more power fluid into the power steering pump or it begins to whine. I've gone under the truck and found that both boots around the steering rack have fluid leaking from them. After doing a little research I found a post where someone had a similar problem and ended up having to replace the entire steering rack. Is that something I will have to do? If so, what are pricing on the racks and where are you purchasing them from? I'm low on money as it is my senior year in high school and I still need to replace my cracked exhaust header, along with the clutch cylinders. I guess I'll be spending some money this holiday season.

I had the same issue. I shopped around, did the research and got a brand new rack from carsteering.com. it was $345 with a 3 year, 36K warranty. Had the rack installed by a local shop and it is perfect. No issues, no problems. I know one other guy here who bought from the same place and he is also very satisfied! I wanted the new rack over a refurb. It was a great decision. Good luck!
