I had AIR80 clear tint applied to all glass (including windshield), and then did regular tint ontop of that for the side and back glass. What a difference, even with a black 4Runner in Florida. :becky:
Pro tips for the AC when it's over 100?

I agree with Jetboy, that is one of the reason I bought my T4r white and living in area with temperature over 100 degree:bolt::blah: dry in the summer.

I have ceramic tint all around and just added it to the front windshield (3M Crystaline). You can't tell the front is tinted but it made a world of difference even with having the other windows ceramic tinted. The front windshield seems to really draw in heat vs others cars I've owned. It may have to do with the driver seats being closer to the windshield or it being more vertical. Either way I really noticed the heat coming through the front. The tint had eliminated all of that. With our hot humid weather here, I've rarely had to have my AC running on higher speeds. Truly worth the cost.

It's hard to refute empirical data...
Put a thermometer in the center AC vent and let us know the temperature of the air coming out after 15 minutes of driving with the AC in Recirc mode.
At this point we don't know if the problem is a lack of cooling or an abundance of heating.

Its been 99-104 here in NM and no AC issues. We have 15% tint on the back and side windows so that helps quite a bit.
I run the AC for a few min with a window cracked to push out the hot air then put the recrec mode on. (pro tip)
I instruct my wife to NEVER EVER park under trees because the aphids poop. (pro tip)
Do you have a thermometer to put in the vent to see what the temp of air is? I'm not sure what the temp rise is on the 4Runner but it should be documented someplace. Just like on your furnace at home.

Just drove home to Vegas yesterday midday from California. 118 in Baker, a comfortable 115 (!) here in Vegas. I had the A/C on the third notch, 4 occupants. We were comfortable but seeing a bunch of cars on the side of the road was not encouraging.
I am going to look into that front clear ceramic. How long does it last? and will it start fading or hazing over time?

Last weekend the kids were saying they were cold driving around, it was over 110.
My wife is always fiddling around trying the get that sweet spot but she has that comfort zone of about 3 degrees.
So far my white 16 TE seems pretty good even when I saw the outside temp say 120 yesterday. Takes longer than my Silverado did to get cold air going but works way better that the wife's Odyssey.

I don't know what the difference would be, but on my 14 trail premium the ac was very insufficient when it got over 90 degrees, but on my 17 TRD Pro the ac is phenomenal and will freeze you out of the cab. Can't explain why my 17 Pro brakes are silent and the 14 trail had the squish sound either.

Hey, I was a victim of that on Tuesday in Tucson. Had a 5 hour delay on my flight home. Wish I had the 4runner, I would have just made a road trip out of it.
Something doesn't seem right. Temp read around 100 today and my '17 T4R did fine, no tint, dark exterior (blue). I had to have the AC on high, mid-high fan and recirc mode.
To cool the car off if it has been outside I open the sun roof and lower the rear window for a few minutes of driving.
I wish I had ventilated seats though, that is a great hot weather feature.

Is it stop and go traffic? or cruising along freeway speeds?
You got to have air flowing through the grill pretty good or it will never cool down very well. Also wouldn't hurt to have a shop check the freon levels.

Other desert rats seem to be doing ok in theirs, take a quick look under the hood for signs of oil/dirt on the test ports, hose crimp fittings, and o ring seals into the condenser and compressor. Where freon escapes, so does oil, always. I think ours have uv dye already in the oil/freon? Maybe I'm dreaming, I've been on a 130 degree roof in phx all day......

Wait, do we need to worry about 100+ outside temps and running the AC at the same time?
Planning a trip out to Vegas in a couple weeks and now I'm worried about overheating the engine with AC use and hilly driving?
I was under the assumption with modern cars, that's not a concern anymore

I live in Southern California - near Pasadena, where it now gets hot as crap in the summer and global climate change has us cooking a few degrees more every few years.
So when I bought my 4Runner, I got a Trail in White with Cloth seats and added ceramic and tint on the windows.
My AC never has a problem keeping the car cool when I head out to the desert and my ass is never burning off those pleather seats when I get in the car.

It's not, you'll be fine. I've kept my 4Runner cool on the way to Vegas without taking any specific steps other than letting the windows down at the start to let out some of the cooked air - as another poster suggested earlier.

I drive back and forth from Vegas to So Cal all the time. The only place you should watch your temp guage more closely is going up Baker grade. As long as you don't try to go up it at 80 mph like a lot of people do, it's fine. You climb just over 3000 feet in 19 miles and it's the hottest park of the drive. I have seen old cars and new claimed by that hill.

That's a really good point.
I haven't had any problems doing it with my 2015 yet, but i usually don't even push 80 there. Never have in any of my cars.
