Probably stupid question about used tire

I never replaced "good drive-able" tires with the better ones, so old tires costs me only disposal fee. This time is different. I have original (2012) Duelers 265/70R17 mounted with about 7mm tread left on it (38k miles and never punctured). I want to replace them with BFG KO2 that are sitting in my garage.

So here it comes, me and stupid question :embarassed:: are these Duelers worth anything more than disposal fee?

Many people buy used tires to not have to buy new tires. I sold my with 5k on them for $50 a tire. I would think you could easily get $25-$35 a tire on Craigslist

Its worth posting them on CL, if its saves you the fee assuming 25 and you get 75 (to move them fast) thats 100 for less then an hr of work. Good return.

Look at it this way; for a little CL effort, anything you get puts you ahead of a disposal fee. I'd sell 'em for cheap just to get a fast sale and avoid dickering. $100 for the set?

Suggest you deliver someplace away from your home however, like the Costco parking lot. Get a cell number, call to confirm.

Just had a buddy going through some challenges come over and work for me for a 1/2 a day. Giving him mine with 6k miles. I imagine there is a market. My brother just told me Discount Tires Direct buys used tires. Haven't verified that though.

Every used set of tires I've sold on CL was no issue (probably like 4 sets now, some new, some used) and I priced them to be gone quick.

Throw them on there for $100 bucks like [MENTION=51186]philsey[/MENTION] said and call it day. It's a popular size with dodge trucks.

Thanks guys, I'll do that. I can always drive these tires to local dumpsite for free. But you are right. CL is free, and if someone is in need for tire he/she can get the set for half of the one tire price.:tape2: New KO2 has 12mm deep thread, so these Duelers are not half way done yet.

In less than 3 hours I'm going to local American Tires to have my new KO2 installed. Can't wait to see them on my Bismarck. Now dilemma: White letters out or in :fish:

The dude kept calling from different numbers. There is no reason to give out your number. You can use the CL secure email just as easy as text.

Back to the original question sell them cheap, save the dump fee, and let someone else get some good use out of them instead wasting them. Win-win-win!

BFG KO2 265/70R17 C-rated mounted on 2012 SR5 stock rims

So I installed stock size C-rated KO2 replacing the original Duelers H/T. After two days of driving on paved roads: wet and dry, city, country road and interstate highway, at different speeds from 10 to 75mph here is my question to Toyota:
:wtf: Toyota??? What possessed you guys to install such crap as Bridgestone tires in such fantastic SUV as 4Runner at your factory??? What, you saved maybe 500 bucks on tires (I'm sure Bridgestone gave you good deal) so you can charge 39.5k instead of 40k? Toyota, you :crazy: :loco: :moon:!!!

BTW, Toyota is not the only one to install the crappy tires on new cars: I had Bridgestones from the factory on Nissan and Mazda too. What a POS.

In all my cars I replaced factory tires with Michelins. I trusted them to be the most comfortable and long lasting tires. After reading this forum I decided to go for KO2 for my 4Runner - billion flies can't be wrong, right? So I installed KO2 this weekend and ... what the difference. The ride is so quiet and so smooth. These KO2 are as comfortable as Michelin. I'm so glad I listened to you guys, you talked me to BFG and I don't regret it. :hatsoff:

In short: ride comfort went up at all speeds and different surfaces (smooth new pavement, concrete highway, old patchy asphalt, speed bumps, concrete parking garage) the road noise went down, bumps are absorbed much better, much less vibration on rough surface. Driving feels more like being on a boat than a car. It seems also, that car hold to the road a bit better (less jumping).

As for the fuel economy I don't see any noticeable difference - I'm still getting around 20-21mpg on my commute. BTW I inflated these tires to 32psi, exactly what it shows on the door label.

So the only thing I can't tell is how long they will last. Michelin tires last me usually 80-100k miles before I had to replace them. I would like to get at least half of that from BFG KO2. Time will tell.

Here's why: Everyone likes different tires. There were 100,000 4Runners sold last year and probably 90,000 of them were fine with the stock tires.
After the stock tires wear out these 90K people will replace them with similar or identical tires. Some, like me, will opt for a nice AT tire and a few will want the look (majority) or performance (minority) of a true MT. That's why.

Jeep Rubicon comes with a nice off road tire and around here most take them off an put AT tires on.

If Toyota thought tires sold vehicles they would put different tires on it. And yes, you will see a slight mileage drop of a half to one mpg when you calculate your mpg correctly.

I'm ordering my 4runner, just getting an SR5, at the end of the month and planning on finding some limited wheels [maybe w/ tires?] on CL and sell my OEM's.

Are limited tires junk too?

Anybody who has done what I'm planning and have any guidance, I'd love to hear it.

I could be wrong but I think Michelin owns BF Goodrich. I love my KO2's in stock size. I ended up getting $20 a piece for my old Duelers.

Nope, all black. For comparison I put both sides next to the truck before the install. Did not look right with white letters and "white" rims. Kind of like gangster shoes

Good choice. The stock 20" Geolanders are great all around tires. My first ones went 65k+. At that time I sold my OEM rims for $500 and then picked up a take off set of 2014 Limited rims with tires for $1300. So for a net of $800 I got the newer style rims and brand new tires that retail for $1200.
