Problems with the dealer and 4 Runner

So this is the story, I went into my toyota dealer around August to buy a new 4 runner and trade in my audi q5, so we made a deal and I put an order in for a 2016 te with kdss and they said the would give me 30k for my audi, we did the contract and I put down the deposit. So now my 4runner is in at the dealer finally after a 3 month wait so I bring in the audi so they can check it out again (audi has been in a garage and not have been driven more than a few miles since it was first checked), now they say that whoever checked it the first time made a mistake and they can only offer me 24k for the audi, so minus 6k that originally. The whole reason I made the deal was because the difference I would a paid for the 4 runner was around 10k, now I have to pay 16k +? I was going to pay it in cash, no finance or anything like that. I already talked to them about it being their mistake and that it's not my fault their wmployee made a mistake, they should eat it then. Am I wrong to think that, do I have any leg to stand on here?

Edit: they said the reason they quoted me 30k initially because they thought my audi q5 was an s model...

You absolutely have a leg to stand on. That's the typical bate-and-switch bullshit any dealer would try. They're trying very hard to bend you over and have their way with you. Don't take it. If it were me, I'd say, If I'm not out of here in 2 hrs with my new 4runner based on our previous agreement, I'll go somewhere else.

During June 2014 when I bought mine, the salesman said the 4runner received an additional $750 off for a current promotion. (This was after about 5 hrs of haggling). Then after we FINALLY agree on a price for my trade in and a price for the 4Runner, he comes out and says he can't offer the $750 discount because it wasn't actually for the 4Runner, only a couple other cars. I said, screw you, your mistake - I never would have agreed on this price without that discount, now you're trying to take it away? He was "adamant" about it being an honest mistake (as if I gave a shit - he was a douche from the get-go). I made him enforce the $750 discount, which took, no shit, another hour to do. I would be absolutely frank with them - don't be afraid to walk away...they'll come back to you. Litterally had the salesmen running out to my car window to get me back inside when buying my wife's car.....twice!

Stand your ground - that's an intentional move by the sales associate. Many people fall for it....I hope you don't.

When I checked kbb, the value was at 30k so It didn't sound to good to be true to me, I have offer to meet them half way and I'm willing to pay 3k but they seem to still not budge, I'm am going to talk to the owner of the dealer tmrw and see if anything changes

Meeting them "half way" means you're half-screwed. Not sure I'd feel better in that situation. My advice is to walk, chalk this bad experience to another lesson in the school of hard knocks, and go somewhere else and start anew. If you do a deal where you are screwed or half-screwed, you will probably never feel good about it. Life is too short to harbor regrets...

Meeting them "half way" means you're half-screwed.

There was one exception to that rule. When I was buying my Tacoma (used) many many years ago, I told them up front, that having near no credit history I can't afford the price they asked. After 6 hours we agreed on the price and APR on finance which they promised to take care of.

Two weeks later thy called me saying that they can't find any bank to do the loan for the agreed amount, the max bank can give (with the agreed percentage rate) is 3K less. We met "half way" by me adding 1K to my down payment and them dropping the OTD price by 2K.

I had very mixed feelings after that. I paid less for the truck, that's good but what pissed me off was that after 6 hours of "playing sale game" with "this absolutely as low as we can get" the finance manager dropped the OTD price (from 15k to 13k) in 5 minutes of phone conversation.

Since then I never hesitated to walk out if I felt something was not right - either price, trade in or conditions. BTW knowing all details before coming to the dealer (especially the honest trade in value, APR I can get from my bank and any discounts available) helps with not taking any BS they often try on me. But as soon as they realize I don't fall for that I either have an honest deal or they let me walk away if they don 't care.
