Programming Instructions for keyless entry remote?

I just purchased a '97 limited without a key fob. Just wondering what the model number I should be looking for.

I have a 1996 Limited with the RS3000 VIP system and these instructions worked for me. The top button on the FOB locks and unlocks the doors but I have no idea what the bottom button does. Anyone know?

Answered my own question again, apparently the bottom button doesn't do squat.

So, my 98 has the VIP sticker on it, and the blinking light by the rear window switch. Does this mean I have the alarm? And that being the case which FCC am I looking for?

Check the glovebox for an alarm manual or under the driver's seat for the alarm control box. If you see any mention of it being the RS3000 system then you'll want to get a key fob with the FCC ID of BAB237131-022.

Thanks. Ya I do have the RS3000 alarm system, which Im totally pumped about. I ended up ordering an aftermarket fob on ebay. This one

What the eff?
So I ordered the key fob I linked in the post above. I tried programming it several times with no success. So I called the company and they tried walking me through it. They give the same instructions as my RS3000 owners guide. Push the little button on the ECU for 3 seconds, the red light on the status monitor comes on, which mine does. Then press the button on the fob. The monitor is suppose to chirp, and the exterior lights are suppose to flash once, and the fob is programmed. I tried this 20 times in every possible way with no success. So I took the fob to autozone to make sure its sending out a signal, and it is.
So I called the company back again today, and the lady looks up my vin and says that I didnt have an alarm system and keyless entry installed from the factory, and thats why its not working. Well, news for you miss, I have the "Toyota VIP RS3000" owners manual right here in my glove box. Its review dated 6/15/95, so theres no way in he*ll it was installed aftermarket. I have the ECU right under my seat with the little button. I have the status monitor installed right next to my window button. I press the button on the ECU for 3 seconds, and the red led on the status monitor lights up. Its all there. The alarm may not have been installed in the Toyota factory. It was probably installed as an option by the 1st buyer when it was brand new on the lot. So it doesnt matter where it was installed. Its an original toyota RS3000 security/keyless entry system.
Anyone have any ideas? Do I possibly have a blown fuse somewhere? Id love to get this thing figured out, as both of my roomated had stuff stolen from their cars last week. I had my doors locked, which was enough to keep the guy out. But I might not be so lucky next time.

Hey guys. I have a 97 4runner with an aftermarket security system I think and I'm hoping someone here has some information on programming it. So i have a red LED on the left side of my steering wheel near the dimmer switch. I also have a small switch on the driver kick panel.
I opened up under the steering wheel and found what I think is a security ECU with United States Auto Security 4000 or something like that. I closed it back up and can't remember exactly what it said. My key fob that I have also says United States Auto Security. FCC ID ELV777K. It is a two button remote with MT5A inside on the actual circuit board. I really have no idea what I'm doing or if the programming instructions described here would work. Thanks for your help

Well, Im officially giving up on this. I got the correct key for (-022, gray) and I know it works cause the light comes on. I press the button for 3 seconds on my ECU and the light comes on. And then I press the botton on the fob, and nothing happens. Ive tried every possible combo. Door open, door closed. Bottom button, top button, both buttons at once. Nothing works. This is bolshevik!

You do have the RS3000, under the seat, right?

Sure do. Thats the ECU with the button you press for 3 seconds to program the remote. I have the whole system. Chirper, grass breakage sensor, all the wiring is there. The only think I can figure is that theres an issue in the wiring somewhere. I dont know what else it could be

Sorry to hear man. I was gonna get the RS3000 and all that, and even try getting the newer remotes to work so I could have the window feature... but once I learned that the button only puts the window down, I said, forget it.
For the price of an RS3000 used on eBay (~$35-70) plus the stock remote (50ish), I can have my existing Valet 561r remote start remote programmed to hit the locks and maybe even the window.

Me too! I picked up a HYQ1512Y key fob on ebay for $35 and it all works, even the rear window button!

I picked up a remote on ebay. The seller included detailed instructions which I followed to the letter....5 times and nothing worked. I researched this post and saw that some guys only turned the ket to the "ON" position one time.
I went back and went through the whole process again and this time I only turned the key to the "ON" position once and it worked like a charm. Now I have remote keyless entry on my 4 Runner and I couldn't be happier.

To help anyone else who may still have issues programming remote:
1. When going through lock/unlock cycle, the lock must go all the way up and down. Due to age of actuators, etc., try assisting with left hand to ensure you're getting the full range of motion. Without full range of motion, you will not get the locks to cycle (indicating you're in the program mode).
2. The amount of times you turn key on and off in step 4b determines what happens with the fob. If having trouble, go ahead and do the on/off cycle 5 times to clear out all programming. Repeat from step one and this time at 4b, cycle on/off just once.
If you're having trouble, I would recommend the above. Both can make or break your key programming success.

Hello everyone!!! i am a newbie at t4r.org and a new 4runner owner so i'm not to sure how this works but i have a question about keyless entry! Do i need to have a particular module installed or can i just program a remote to the ecu under drivers seat? Sorry if this question has been answered before!!!
