Programming TPMS

Take what I say with a grain of salt because I am no expert with these damn TPMS sensors but I should be by now.:rant:
I have a 2016 4R Limited and a 2015 RX350. Both have 2 sets of genuine wheels and tires for summer and winter swapping. That is 18 wheels in total including the spares and all have the sensors.
The TPMS system is a Royal PITA! Every time I swap from winter to summer or back I need to go and get them reprogrammed at the dealer or tire place. Even worse yet if you rotate the tires the damn light comes on because the TPMS sensor is programmed for a particular position on the vehicle. The reset gadget goes by a sequence I believe starts with the front drivers wheel to the front passenger, rear passenger, rear driver and ending with the spare. If you rotate the wheels you screw up the sequence and the light comes on. The computer in the vehicle is not smart enough to remember both sets of wheels and tires and the sensor IDs so it must be reset all the time which IMO is a scam forcing us to the dealer or tire shop when ever we make a change of any kind.
Here in NY it is illegal for a tire place to install tires and wheels on your car without the TPMS sensors if the vehicle has the TPMS system. If you get your car inspected for the sticker and the light is on while the car is plugged into the DMV computer it will fail inspection.
I don't remember but think it was on our first Rav4 that had sensors. It came with a donut ring you placed over each valve stem and the ECU read the sensor and reset the system. Too bad they did away with that.
In my case I buy all my tires from one place and they have the reprogramming gadget and do it for me a few times every year for free.
I'm not believing this 50 foot deal when you have two sets of wheels and the ECU gets confused if both are close. The ECU can't even read the TPMS sensor with the gadget unless the hand held reader is directly over the valve stem on each wheel.
We can complain all we want but don't expect Toyota to fix it for us because these are the geese laying golden eggs for the dealer service departments. Folks who are not mechanical by nature just automatically run to the dealer when ever a idiot light comes on and most, not all, dealers always find some minor thing that also needs repair or replacement once the car is in the service bay that will cost you dearly. It was time for your 30,000 mile service so we changed the oil, oil filter, air filter and the cabin air filter and reset the TPMS after we rotated your tires and checked and topped off all the fluids and your bill is $230 but all you wanted was that stupid tire light turned off.:lasercannon:

I bought TRD pro wheels with tpms sensors in them. I put on new mud terrain tires.265/70/r17. Threw them on my 2017 sr5 and the tpms sensors blinks then stay on? Does that mean I have to reprogram the tpms sensors in the new wheels. Please help

How long have they been blinking ? i would drive for a while and see if they adapt. If not, you’ll need to get them reprogrammed or transfer your oem tpms into these wheels.
I would find a shop who can program them. If you want to diy, you can get techstream/cable and program them yourself.

I’ve had them on for about 4 days now. First 2 days there was no light. On the 3rd day it blinked a couple times and now it just stays on. Every time I start up it blinks a couple of times and stay on. I’m pretty sure I have to reprogram them to the ecu. My stock wheels still have the original tpms in them and the pros have them in there already. I don’t think all 5th gens have the same code for the tpms sensors. I plan on leaving the stocks on and not reprogramming because I need the sticks for safety checks in Hawaii. Safety checks here are pretty strict
I’ve ran stealth custom series with no sensors for 2 years and I’d just ignore the light. I’m sure I’ll get use to the light staying on again

Cut out a small piece of electrical tape and put it over the light. that is what i have done for 6 years now.

has anyone tried the new quickset X? having 4 sets of tires for two daily driven vehicles it would be nice to have a tool that you can use at home
