Thanks....At this point the only sheet metal left of the original truck is the cab, hood, and right side door.
I went down to Tampa and found a red left door and fender off a rust free t4r. The truck was pretty beat up but, what I needed was perfect, the door even had the same style mirror on it….how’s that for luck:thumb3:

The windshield is out now making it the last piece of glass to be removed from the truck. Before the new body panels are installed they are painted on the back side and jam so that the color is consistent throughout the truck. The doors are completely gutted so that the door cavities can be painted as well.

The original color is a medium metallic blue with black topper, that is the color combo I am staying with.
The old windshield is out and a new one has been orderd.
The truck has been jamed with color and the entire inside has a new spray in bed liner. I will install all the original vinyl flooring back into the truck, the bed liner is to keep things a little more clean.

I have an 89' 4Runner that is super rusty, it doesn't look like it, but that's because of all the bondo. It's great to see what it takes to do a body swap. The pics are great, and keep up the awesome work m8.

Thanks, I did not want to just bondo over everything because, it's not long before the rust pops through again.
The truck is rust free now and filler was used only to smooth out the body work and a few small dings.

The truck is all in primer now and ready to paint

Your truck looks awsome in primer with no roof! I really wanna make the back of my 2nd gen remove. I'm still contemplating that idea. Might wanna wait til the spring, don't really wanna freeze in the winter.


I'm going to bed liner the inside of my truck and maybe underneath a bit too.
You can stop the rust from coming back. You just have to remove it all before repair. I'm going to have to forum up some quater panels soon. Not big on buying fiberglass ones. I plan on flaring them about an inch or so.

How thick are the vinyl floor mats in those trucks. I think its a good idea for the rear cargo area. and on the inside of the gate. Mine, always have greasy auto parts in them.

Good to stay with the factory colour. that blue is a good one. My truck is a little to purply of a blue. i dont really like it. may darkin it a bit.

The factory vinyl flooring is a medium to heavy duty mil. And holds up very well to hard use.
I too hull around greasy auto parts all the time this is the reason why I bought the standard model 4Runner and not the SR5.
This truck is going to be a parts huller/daily driver for me so, I needed a truck with an interior that was easy to just wipe clean.

Making a gen 2 t4r into a removable top would be very cool, I would like to see that:thumb3:

we did do a fast glaze on the truck and in a few weeks do another.
I will have to check what the code is, I don't remember.

We have been installing all the new trim and bumpers this week and working on the rear cap.

One of the things I bought (from Toyota) was new mud guards that go in front of the rear wheels. I went to install them and they are not the same as the ones that came off my truck. I tried to use them but, they just don't fit right.

So.....I decided to restore the old ones The plastic was rough and sun beat so, I used the media blaster in the shop to smooth them out some and prep them for paint.
As I was hitting them with the glass beads I saw a few sparks:wow: I did not think too much about it until I removed one from the cabinet.........I picked it up just fine and started to walk away when.....BANG!!!!! I get one %$#& of a shock it was the hardest hit I ever got from static electricity:jaw drop:
My thumb went a bit numb and I felt the hit all the way up to my elbow.....

Wow sounds like when i had a firecracker go off in my hand. So i assume there is a metal plate with a plastic coating. Alot of the plastic parts are like that. My mud flaps are like that also. stupid idea cause they rot really bad. should be all plastic.

No metal at all in it, just a crap load of static electricity:lol:

Oh i thought that when you said seen sparks from the blaster. but now i know what you mean. I blasted a front valance on my celica, with a pot blaster and it was really staticy when i went to prime it after. made the primer fish eye alot. soaked it in anti-static wash and thinners.

find out the paint code yet?

actually i'll just look through our paint chips for 88. hope we have the import book. usually older books like that up here are all domestic. I have been lucky and found a mitchell manual for 88-89 import book. i found out the difference on my celica gt to a celica all-trac. i plan on converting mine over time.

I really like the look of your truck without the back on it. it reminds me of when they mold beds into cabs on mini trucks. I think I'd like to make a first gen into a lowrider. Put the body on a pickup frame.

Almost Most of the chrome is on and I worked on the interior a bit today.
I will install the new rocker molding tomorrow and work on the inside some more.
I went to put gas in it the other day and a few people came over to check it out the truck was still without most of it's chrome and it still caught attention.

I will post pics soon, my home PC is down so, I can not post pics yet

On a side note...I took a deposit on my 94 today:bravo: Looks like she will get a new home in a few days. Funny thing, the guys wife seen the 88 and said Oooooo:girl: I WANT THAT ONE!!!!
