I guess it is only part 1 of this project vehicle, so hopefully they'll do something about that. I think they were concerned with performance first. Pretty fugly now, but cool to see a modded GX.

Hello,
New to the group.

It might be crazy, but I am planning on doing a few things similar to my GX. I have got to get rid of those running boards and add sliders. I also am planning on a custom bumber with a front reciever hitch to improve clearence and to mount a winch. I must have a snorkel. Now if I can get my wife to agree.

theyre gonna probably put an arb or tjm on there. its just the first phase, much more to come.

Cool, welcome to the forum. I am excited to see a GX member and look forward to your posts.

Well the 4R sliders should work just fine on the GX. I will hopefully get my set beginning January and will post pics.

I also see no reason why a spacer lift should not work on the GX. You might want to contact ARB for a front bumper as the GX and Prado body styling is very similar so you can get the bumper. See pic below. Just check with them.

Start with the smal stuff first. i.e. spacer lift, then sliders, then got for the bigger items.

I have contacted ARB. They could not tell me if the Prado bumper would work. They also carry snorkel for the Prado, but again could not tell me if it would work on the GX. I am afraid I will have to pay for custom stuff. We'll see.

New Information!

The current 4Wheeler Mag has the updated info on the Trailex. I will say that looks was not a priority, but it seems to preform great.

The new issue of four wheeler has the completed version. Gotta say it looks sweet, especially the bumper. Kinda reminds me of Lances, bumper.

Is it online yet?

Tex I'll be fiting my sliders tomorrow at Hanna's and will go test then out close to SLO with James. Will post pics. Have they come back to you yet? I dropped my running baords to night and must say the 4R look compltetly different. My runningboards was pretty beat up, especially after taking themoff I could see the damage, but my 4R doesn't even have a nick on the side :)

bulldog-yota,

I have not pulled the running board off to take pic yet. They need me to send pic so they can tell if it will bolt right on. I was thinking of pulling them today. I can't wait to see your pic.

that is the UGLIEST thing i have ever seen. my dad just got one not to long ago and i couldnt imagine doing somehting liek that to a gx. its a LEXUS not a jeep!!! the only reason they removed the front bumper is because the tires wouldnt fit. so idoubt well see that getting put back on any time soon.

I agree...they overdid it. I understand getting slightly bigger off-road tires or adding some underbody protection (e.g. sliders, heavier duty skids). But, FourWheeler basically turned a Lexus into a horrible freak show.

Don't know I think it looks like of cool. I've been reading the articles on fourwheeler and they keep adding stuff to it. The sliders, and winch was the last things I saw on there.

I just think it is great that someone is playing with the GX. Everything you do to a GX has to be custom right now, because you can not find aftermarket off-road parts for them. I have talked to about everyone, and can not find anyone willing to make sliders for the GX. With minor modification, the GX could 4wheel with the best of them. With major modification, the GX can go near anywhere.

Yeah, the links to Part 2 and Part 3 of the project are on the same 1st page that was originally linked. Here is a direct link to part 3: http://www.fourwheeler.com/projectbuild/129_0504_tlex/index1.html

I have never been a huge fan of the GX's looks, so I think this is an improvement. If I had a GX, I would prefer it this way. Plus, the project really didn't have anything to do with making it look good. Here is a pic that I liked:
