pros and cons of 4 cyl 2wd?

Im in the market for a 3rd gen. 4runner and I am almost willing to drive down to Florida (I live in New Jersey) to check out a certain dealership (www.carsearchusa.com). Most of the 4runners on their site are 4cylinder 2 wheel drive models. Is it worth buying a 4runner that is only 2 wheel drive and 4 cylinders? The 4runners on the site are all '98 or'99's and have low low miles. My dilemma is deciding between 2 models. One model has 50,000 miles on it and is 4cylinders with 2 wheel drive. While the other model has 65,000 miles and is 6 cylinder and 4 wheel drive. Both are the same price. Can anyone offer any suggestions in terms of pros and cons, or even what you would do in this situation? Thanks in advance

I would go with the 6 cylinders. Stronger engine.. but if power isn't a big thing for you, why not the 4 cylinder?

I didn't see your 4Runners in thier ads. I hope they haven't sold them. I kind of like getting a car in Florida. There will be less rust on them, than up in New Jersey. Of course they could of gotten the car from New Orleans.

One thing to consider is the 99 model has quite a few nice up-grades over the 98. I have driven a 4 cyl 2WD, I was impressed on how well it drove when not pushing it. After testing a bit more, I found it lacking in power and I got the V6. The 4 cyl. has a good reputation and it has a timing chain and it is known to last, slow but known to last.

Having said all that with the 98 vs. 99 and 4 cyl and V6, I would tend to go for the 4WD. I know I have a 2WD, but I live in Atlanta. For me if I lived in New Jersey I would be tempted to get the 98 V6 4WD.

For the same price, get the 4WD V6. 65k miles is pretty low for a '99 so make sure that it checks out. Like the other poster stated, it could be from the hurricane areas.

If you go through autotrader.com with the 33311 zip code and search for 4runners $10,000 and under, one of the first few will be from carsearchusa.com. if you click on it and then click on view inventory, it will show you a list of all of the 4runners they have.

The 4 banger is adequate but that's it.
