Purchase the 2013 or 2014 model?

Hey all!

I'm new to the 4Runner community. I have decided this is what I want as my next car. I don't require an extremely tough, rugged, off roading vehicle which is what the 4Runner is capable of. I like the look, space, and reliability of the car. The main function for this vehicle would be for hauling boxes for the business, hauling luggage, and possibly going to the snowy mountains in the winter in california, and going to the beach.

I'm not sure what model to get, but I do prefer some luxuries such as leather and automatic seats. I heard the heat warmers break down, so I prefer a low maintenance vehicle. I do prefer the look of a navigation screen, but again google maps is so useful from the cellphone. Can anyone chime in their experience with the navigation? I'd like to get the most value on my purchase, so if the 2013 can be purchased for significantly less I would consider. However, I have to admit I like having the most updated, refreshed model too. Would there be a big price difference between a 2013 and 2014 model? Thanks for reading and I am glad to be a part of this community!

How much is a re-designed front end, new instrument panel, updated NAV console, memory seats, and cooled seats worth to you? Take the best deal you can negotiate on a '14 and subtract the best deal you can negotiate on '13 and that's your number. You're probably getting close to the good deals coming on the '13s but if that's your end game, I would personally hold off another month or two until inventories build up on the '14s. You might not get the exact colour you want on a '13 as inventory dries up, but you may get the price you want. Look at some interior pics of the dash of each model so you can compare. The exterior speaks for itself.

Never had a prob w/ mine, and I don't recall any reports of the bun warmers having problems.

There's no way to predict '13 vs '14 pricing where you are. 4Rs hold value remarkably well, so the only way you'll know is to wait 'til, oh, Feb or March and see what happens. IMO, I wouldn't predict anything earth shattering so buy what you like.

The 2014 interior is so much better that that alone would make me go with the 2014. I don't love the new front end, but how often do you look at the front anyway??? How things look behind the wheel have always been the most important to me. I don't car how cool a car is, if the interior is lame forget it...

Thank you! I previously thought the '13 and '14 differences was just the headlights. The NAV and instrument panel is a very big change. I like the '14 for sure!

Thank you! So Feb/March would be the best time to buy? So expect to pay MSRP?

I personally chose to buy a 2013 Trail Edition. I was going to wait for the new style 14's to come out. Once I saw the front end I went for the 13. I think it looks much more "truckish" and thats what I prefer. I also think the front of the 14's looks like a Mitsubishi with the dimples and fog lights and bumpers in them. Well to be blunt so far I hate the look of the 14's !! Maybe it will grow on me in time.

Either way you can't go wrong with the 4R. Buy what you love and start the modding :D
