Purchasing a New 4Runner

Hey Guys,

I am currently in the market for a new car and I have narrowed down the choices to either a TT FJ or a TE 4Runner. I like both of the equally the same and do not know which one to go with. In the past I used to own a 2001 4Runner and I loved that thing. I understand that both of them are pretty much built on the same frame. So I could use your opinions.

I eyeballed the TT FJs for a good while before I decided I liked the full size rear door and sliding rear window.
 
and a rear gate that goes Up instead of swinging Out.

My Fj was a slight upgrade in comfort (believe it or not) over my Rubicon.

Tired of getting beat up - T4R here I come.

(I'm not dead yet so, the Cadillac will have to wait)
 
Two different vehicles imo. My daughters boyfriend has a FJ and it's nice but I needed the added cargo room of the 4Runner.
 
Fj and T4R are very different. Both great rigs in their own way(s)
Really depends on what the prospective owner wants out his/her vehicle.
 
Yeah I am looking at both vehicles. I honestly like both and am torn in between. I am a single college male and I like the FJ not having the rear doors so I do not have to haul people around. On the other hand I used to own a 4runner and I have a sweet spot for them. On the plus side, the 4Runner will for sure be around longer than the FJ and just seems more practical.
 
I like the FJ for its ease of cleaning after off-road, snow, sleet, rain, a d everyday dirt. (From the rubber floor) but I like the 4Runner for its practibality and not as big of a blind spot. I'm glad I'm not in this suituation, because the FJ was too far out of my price range, LOL!

You are thinking in the right direction. Let me help. You are a college student NOW. Very soon you will be a tax paying married schmuck, and then soon after that, a father who is responsible for the transportation and safety of your family. But that does not mean you to have anything less than at least one vehicle than can perform off road like the current TR 4 and still have enough safety and drive-ability features to feel safe with your new family in the truck. I think that is why Toyota did what they did when they built our current model. Your doing good, keep thinking forward. Be Safe.
 
Only you can decide what vehicle is right for you, they both are good choices and both have advantages.

For me the 4Runner was best due to the cargo room and swing up rear hatch and the spare tire is underneath out of the way.

Another thing to consider, and many people don't know this until they own a vehicle with the rear side doors that open backwards like the FJ, (I have a Dodge Pick-up with this configuration) is that it is very difficult to access the back seat in a parking lot with other vehicles on both sides of you.
 
Fj is literally a box on wheels. Highway driving is a handfull.
Blindspots in "A" Pillar as well as to the rear.
Rear doors (as mentioned) swinging to the rear only after front doors are open create an exit/entry prison if you are in the garage. Invariably somebody tries to slam the rears closed before the fronts ior worse at the same time (boom)
Rear seats are uninhabitable. Rear cargo area is small. Rear window only opens with a key and MUST be open IF you hope to drive with your side windows down and not be buffeted within an inch of your life at speeds above 38mph.
Your windshield (if it lasts more than a year at a time) will never meet a Bug that does not smash and display itself. It is practically verticle and you will never reach the middle 8" to clean it unless you are 6'5" in which case you may not fit anyway.
All in all, I liked both of my Fj's (lol)

( I must have been nuts)
