Purchasing a timing belt kid online, looking for suggestions.

Hello everyone!

Looking to buy a timing belt kit online for my local mechanic to install, I did a search but couldn't find anything recent for pricing and all the links are dead. I wanted to get your opinions or where to buy. I want OEM for the main parts, here are a few I found and wasn't sure what you all think.

Im a little over whelmed with all of the options and different prices, just want the main components to be aisin and or toyota.

I'd go with this one. Same seller as your second link, but this one is all OEM. It's only $20 more than the one with the non-oem belts. Not worth the risk in my opinion.

Also interesting that this kit has gotten cheaper in the last 2 years. It was $290 when I did mine 2 years ago.

And now is also a good time to put a new radiator and radiator hoses in. It adds about $150 in parts to the project, but they come out to do the job anyway so it shouldn't add any labor. Make sure your mechanic installs the thermostat in the right direction also, jiggle valve at 6 oclock, not the traditional 12 oclock. Your engine will run 10-20* cooler with it at 6 oclock vs 12 oclock.

After looking at the two kits, I would go with the first actually. The parts are the exact same, just don't say Toyota. Bando, Mitsuboshi, Aisin, NSK, and Koyo are all the OE suppliers on the 3rd gen. No sense paying extra for a red Toyota logo. In fact, when you open a Aisin 3rd gen water pump you can see where they scraped off the 'Toyota'. I know this because I work at an Import Parts shop and recently purchased all this stuff for my 4runner.

Agree, as well as some Toyota red coolant.

Thanks for the quick reply, that prices seems to been good as well. I was also think of doing the radiator like you mentioned, probably smart to do that since its never been replaced (don't want pink milk shake). Engine only has 154k on it.

Get a Denso. As I recall Toyota recently lowered their prices. 16410-YZZAJ is the toyota part number

I went with an Aisin from Rock Auto when I did mine. Part number is TKT025
AISIN Water Pump, Hydraulic Tensioner, Koyo Idler Bearing, Koyo Tensioner Bearing, Mitsuboshi Timing Belt, Water Pump Gaskets & O-Rings. On Rock Auto now for $180.89. Amazon lists it for as low as $159.xx..

I put a Denso from Amazon in mine. The reviews said the packaging isn't great but I didn't have a problem with mine. Just inspect it when you get it and make sure there is no damage. I think I paid under $100 on Amazon. I've put over 40k miles on mine since I did the entire job and no issues.

I've now used this kit twice with very good results. It's all oem and comes with with free 2 day shipping if you have amazon prime. Doesn't come with nearly as much as the ones posted above but it is cheaper.

I agree this kit seems to be the gold standard at least on this forum. This is the exact kit I will be ordering soon when I do mine.

Toyota outsources the components as stated above,buy an Aisin kit it's as'O.E.M.as it gets.:wof:

+1 for the aircabinman kit on ebay. I purchased the one that included the PCV as well.It was a mix of Toyota and manufacture OE parts.

Its always a good idea to go with OEM Toyota parts... but... I used AISIN TKT005 TB KIT from ROCKAUTO. AISIN is a supplier of Toyota OEM parts, but this kit isn't OEM...however, at $186.02 its a decent deal. Shipping was reasonable. Be aware, the AISIN kit doesn't come with acc belts or thermostat. This kit has been in my truck for 2 yrs with no issues whatsoever.

Don't forget the red Toyota recommended coolant. Others have said replace the rad. If you're on the original rad and you haven't bypassed the factory rad located tranny cooler, then I would strongly recommend doing this. You have to remove the rad anyways, so its a great time to replace it. If you're wondering why, google "pink milkshake".

Absolutely, I bought the belts, stat and gasket separately. I bought the seals from Toyota of Dallas. When I replace seals, I always buy OEM. The only seals on my truck that aren't OEM are under the valve covers--- I went with Fel-pro. I've used Fel-pro for years, under valve covers, with no issue.

I ordered his kit, and could not be more happy. It is all Toyota, or Toyota suppliers and has everything you will need. I highly recommend using it.

For clarification I have nothing good or bad to say about aircabinman, thousands have used their kit and I'm sure it's fine. I should have said more trustworthy to me personally, sorry about that.

Just clarifying my position on what I'm more comfortable with due to how good Amazon Prime has treated me
