Push to Start Fob Question

the question I have is can a PTS fob from 14 4Runner be used on another vehicle, say Tacoma (2016 Tacoma we are getting will have it)?

I rather not carry 2 fobs for 2 different vehicles and just use 1 fob operate 2 different vehicles?

has anyone tried this on a 4runner?

edit : I have looked around (via google search method on the forums and the prius forums) and found posts where they use the same fob from different years, but not from different vehicles

How one of the techs explained to me.

The ECU has a predetermined frequency that it looks for. The frequency is programmed at the factory where the ECU is built, and to get 2 vehicles with the same ECU frequency is damn near impossible. The Fobs are programmed to hold that frequency and send it to the ECU when they are within 50ft of each other.

So he also said with ford that is actually pretty easy to do. With Toyota you either have to be Akio Toyoda or you need to blow him so he will give the go ahead to allow 2 ECU's to be programmed with the Same frequency.

When you lose a key fob and need to buy a new one, they reprogram the fob to the vehicle, not the other way around.

The only thing I can think of is some kind of hack where the key fob sends out 2 codes (each vehicle's code) at once.. But I would have to call the hacking group Anonymous to figure that out.

I will have to ask when we pick up the new Tacoma in September or October if they can do this as a freebie.

sure would make it easier to carry just one fob for 2 Toyotas than 2 fobs.
