Putting the red bumper lenses to use

So...is there any chance of replacing the lenses with clear lenses, then putting a Taco fog light switch in the dash to control them seperately (or better yet, wire them to the reverse lights) for hugely improved backing illumination?
This could also serve to tell the moron behind you that his brights are on.
I guess the clear lenses would be the tough part here, huh?

Sorry, but I asked this one a while back somewhere in this thread. I don't believe they have aftermarket clear lenses that would fit these bumper lenses. When I baked mine in the over to get the lens off, the lens is a sold translucent piece of red plastic. I was hoping that there would just be a red film or something that could have just peeled off, but I was greatly mistaken.
So, you're pretty much stuck with red, but you still have some options: stock, tail only, brake and tail, brake only or independantly switched. Whatever option you like as long as the color is red...

That's what I was afraid of. Even if it was a sprayed-in coating, it could be soaked and worked off with the right solution. Hmmm...how about a high-intensity UV generator to accelerate color fade......(sounds a bit desperate, huh?)Pennywise said:

When I get around to it I'm gonna take these out and make a Platinum mold and re-cast them out of water clear epoxy. I'm planning on wiring them into my reverse with high intensitiy LEDs. I'm in the process of making some tools to do this process for something else (vacuum chamber/injection molding tank)- I'll put up a post when I do since once all that work is done it's a walk in the park to make more if anyone would like to order them. Ideally making them out of acrylic would be best but that's more difficult.

I have a '04 SR5 V6 4WD and plan to do part of this mod for rear fog light use only. I've read thru the thread and don't see what exact bulb is used on a '04 Hilux in the rear fog light, only a reference to it being 21W. This would seem to be the best bulb for what I want to do and would not seem to have a heat problem. I've tried to find a freebie 04 Hilux owners manual to check the bulb type but haven't found one.
Anyone know of a link to a freebie owners manual or maybe even know the exact bulb type?

They have an opening for, they claim, a T15 light. Looking at that socket, what socket plug would you think it would use? I'd just tap into the wires going to the rear lights (or the trailer lights for that matter) with a spade connector to wire them up.

Sorry this post is so long! I didn’t originally plan on posting so much info.
I am doing this mod with L and R Moforkit lenses, 2 Sylvania ZEVO LED 7443R (red) bulbs and 2 TOMALL 7443 T20 sockets I bought from Amazon, and some 14 gauge wire I bought locally at Home Depot. I plan to splice into the factory tail light/brake light wiring, and not the trailer wiring. My lenses will hopefully have just running and brake lights - no turn signals, hazards, reverse or fog lights. The 7443 LED bulbs are similar to two filament standard bulbs.
I spent a couple hours today removing the rear bumper cover to get to the reflectors. I’m glad I did, because after I got the bumper cover off, I couldn’t remove the rusty nuts from the factory reflectors. The nuts just spun forever without coming off. To get the factory reflectors out of the bumper cover, I had to destroy them with a hammer and a dremel tool, with thankfully no damage to the bumper cover. I now have two nuts rusted onto very short bolts with a small flat retainer on the end of the bolt to use to attach the new lenses. My local hardware store had nothing remotely close to the nuts and bolts that I removed, so now they’re soaking overnight in PB Blaster. Hopefully I can reuse the nuts and bolts so I don’t have to hit up the local Toyota dealer or an auto parts store tomorrow.
Getting the bumper cover off was a bit of a pain, as there are two 10mm bolts close to the trailer hitch that couldn’t be removed because the hitch was in the way. While loosening/removing the hitch, ALL 4 (!) 13mm bolt heads snapped off. (I should have prepped them with PB Blaster.) None of the 4 17mm heads did, which is why I stupidly assumed the 13mm bolts would also come off easily. I was able to loosen the 4 17mm bolts at the trailer hitch enough to get the 2 10mm bolts off without having to remove the hitch completely. After all that, the bumper cover came off very easily.
Now, as part of this project, I have to remove the four snapped off 13mm bolts from the frame rails, rethread the four frame rail holes, and install four new 13mm (or larger) bolts. Fun!

Update: I completed my install of the moforkit lenses and Sylvania 7443 LED bulbs today, connected to the tail light wiring, not the trailer wiring. My lenses are running/brake light combos, no other functions.
I haven’t gone through all 27 pages of this thread, but the OP said it might not be possible to have both brake lights and running lights with LED bulbs. I have both, and they are functioning properly (so far).
There appear to be small gaps between the lenses and the bumper. In the next few days, I may apply a thin coat of caulk to seal the gaps.
I have added two pics. The first is with the running lights on, and the second is with the brakes applied. It doesn’t show well in the pics because of the lighting, but the brake lights are a lot brighter than the running lights.
