I have a 2014 sr5 4x4. I'm installing bilstien 5100 front adjustable shocks for a small lift, but mainly for leveling. For the rear i'm thinking about going with the toytec boss rear shock, instead of the bilstein rear shocks. Would that be fine or should I just stick with the bilstein shocks on all four corners ?? And would you recommend going with the 1.25 rear spacers or bigger springs. Any help would be gravely appreciated !! THANKS !!

I'm not qualified but what I do know is that before there was a Boss rear shock Toytec sold their "Boss kit" with rear bilstein 5100's. Hence why I have them. I suspect valving and ride is not much different, I don't know the current cost or why you want them but maybe that helps.

I went 5100s all around and Icon 2" springs in the rear and am very pleased. Total Automotive Performance was great to work with and I think I got a solid deal.

Are you going to "lift" it or level it.

If you level it you don't need rear springs or spacer. Just set the front perch accordingly to level. The rear shock just add 5100 for a nice all around ride.

If you are lifting it I vote for an actually spring and not a spacer.

before the grumpier bears find you and tell you this, I'd recommend you do a search (with that google bar up top) as this is a pretty popular topic with tons of opinions/ pics...etc. discussed here..

that being said, I personally prefer springs over spacers.. but if this is mostly a mallrunner then spacers will save you $$ and get you the looks

Could you elaborate on the qualifications you need from someone to help determine your decision on shock and spring/spacer choice?

I haven't seen anyone go from a 5100 rear shock to the Boss' yet. It's possible, but that should really narrow down your search for an opinion on that point.

I know there are plenty of people who went from spacer to full spring replacement. Are you looking for opinions on what they thought of the ride difference? Do you need help with the height of rear spring choice? Maybe even the lb. rating?

If you are just trying to level, with a very small lift... Just throw a small spacer in the rear (like the OME 10mm) and run whatever shocks you want (it really won't make a huge difference). If you want a full lift... Then run some actual lift springs, but you will probably end up needing UCAs upfront if you want it level and driving correctly at speed....

For a full lift.
I usually tell people to buy a package and don't try to piece together components unless you enjoy trial and error.

I want as much lift as I can get out of the 5100 in the front. I went ahead and ordered the bilsteins for all four corners. What size replacement springs for the rear would I need to make it level. ??

It partially depends on what you mean by "level". I would call the factory stance "level" based on at least the frame being level and the front suspension geometry being designed for that stance.

If you want the top of the wheel wells to be level, it's about 2" up front. The max lift IIRC on the 5100 is about 2.5". So you might want half to 1 inch in the rear for that setup.

An alternative to new springs is airbags. They can provide anywhere from 0-3" of lift in the rear, but the ride is very stiff when set at higher pressure and will limit your articulation as well.
