Question about backup camera

Did you install it yourself? I am using the same one, can you provide any tips? How did you get the wiring through the lift gate grommet? It's impossible for me.

Yes, I did install it. Funny about that grommet. I spent about 10 minutes fighting with it, trying to push it through, only got about halfway, and realized I had routed it wrong and had to pull it back out. Then I got smart. I sprayed the inside of the grommet with spray lubricant and it slid right through! The difference was amazing. I used RV slide out lube because I had it on hand but I expect spray silicone would do the same. Oh, and I removed the grommet from the plastic fastener that holds it to the gate. My only other advice is, be careful routing the wires inside the gate to keep them away from the back window. I was worried that my wires would get caught by the window on the way up or down. Used a bunch of zip ties. Good luck.

I was fighting that grommet for probably 3 hours total, I finally got ot through last night. I was trying to figure out where the window slides through but still can't tell completely, I am just going to zip tie the camera wires to the existing ones tightly and hope for the best.

Okay, just a partial update. I ended up going with the Natika camera on amazon. I haven't installed it yet thus the partial update. But, I'm really surprised, almost amazed at the apparent quality and customer care with this unit. The camera itself is metal and feels really solid and heavy. the wiring feels like quality as well. And in the box they included a tool to help with installation and a small roll of electrical tape. It just seems like you're dealing with a company that cares. I'll do a final update once I get it installed and try it out, hopefully later this week. This is the unit:

I couldn't get the Camera Source one to flip to the reverse screen last november so I returned it even though I really liked their kit. But last month I got PYvideo one and was successful in the installed. Upon reflection, it had nothing to do with the camera. The only difference was me unplugging the ACC fuse and plugging back in. I did the best I could and installed it off to the side so its NOT perfectly in the middle. check my build thread as there's pictures of where I installed it and what the camera angle looks like. I figure I can live with it off center, I'm just glad I can see the Spare Bumper I installed so I don't ram anything backing up.

Rear camera replacement harness adapter

The Natika camera wire has the standard round 4 pin female connector that they say to connect to the long cable to be routed to the head unit and connected via RCA connector but.
Why can't I just connect to the existing harness that to old camera is connected to? Well, for starters, they are different connectors. So, is there an adapter to connect the current Toyota camera harness to the standard round 4 pin female wire on the Natika camera so I don't have to run a wire all the way to the front of the vehicle?

We mount them just to the right of the latch handle. Looks much better than a tag frame one.

Got a pic of it mounted? mainly how you mounted it from the bottom side? Looking to do the install today/this week.
