Question about mpg!

I'm sure this has been covered before, and I know our 4runners aren't exactly fuel efficient lol but is it normal that i'm only getting around 375miles out of a full tank (600 or so kms). I have recently changed my oil and checked to make sure my tranny fluid is all good, and i'm really disappointed in the gas mileage im getting driving the speed limit, and i mean realllly babying it on the highway.

Any suggestions?

2003 4runner V6
198000kms (140? K miles?)
2.5 inch lift
265/70/17 AT tires
New air filter

sell it. We are all getting 40mpg.

I average around the high 500s (km) on a full tank. I haven't seen my gas light come on in quite some time but every time I fill up I extrapolate and can see that the high 500's are expected from a full tank. In city driving averaging (according to the panel) around 12.7 L / 100 KM.

I consider anything over 300 miles a tank good. That averages out to like 15mpg if you fill up when your at like 1/8 of a tank (which is when I do). Driving all highway on the way to the beach at 80 mph I averaged 18~19 mpg. City is 15-16ish. I'm pleased with that.

I gt 23 ish on the freeway cruising at 70. around town like 17 give or take. I average around 19mpg combined with about 80-90% hills and stoplights. ALl I did was AFE intake, AFE Throttle body Spacer and JET MAF Sensor. I am planning on headers, new FlowMaster cats(3, damn Califrownia!) and Borla exhaust. then Jet chip it and call it a day. I am hoping to avg 20-22mpg then.

That's about average, and given your lift and slightly oversized tires, I'd say you are doing pretty well.

I get a hand calculated 18ish per tank in mixed driving during the summer (19-20 on the lie-o-meter), a bit less in winter because of more short trips and 4WD use.

375 miles!!! Sign me up!!! :rofl: I get 240 MAX!!!

I get 300 before the light turns on.. it comes out to about 16mpg takes 17.5 gallons most of the time. Im ok with that for a v8.. But if I get 375 id be stoked. My acura tl bets 20-21mpg and it takes premium. 3.5L its lighter and more aerodynamic than a 4runner.

Id say you are getting great MPG for a truck. If you cant live with that, time to get another vehicle.

I get around that with 80% hwy/fwy driving. In town I get 13mpg.

that's pretty close to what I get with my bone stock 06 v8.

wait, what? the light turns on with almost 5 gallons left in the tank still?

i think ive seen the light come on once or twice, i guess i never paid attention how much it took to fill up.

Yes. 17-17.5 gallons. Or 18 sometimes. Few weeks ago i droved to 350 with the light on. There were no gas stations near. I filled about 22.5 gallon. It was scary with my family in the truck and no gasstations.

One of the reasons that once I get to 1/4 of a tank I start looking. In fact I rarely let it go below 1/4.

When I was bone stock with Michelin's, Royal Purple in both diff's and transfer case with new plugs I got 21mpg's on the highway. Now I get 16.4 highway and 14.7 city because of the mods.

Just filled up: 18.1 MPG-calculated and adjusted for tires, this is right around my overall average (hwy\ city 50\50) since over-sized AT tires and lift; 265/70R17 Nitto TG, lift info in my signature;

My best was 7 years ago with original Michelin's, no lift and 3000 miles trip (Texas to Yellowstone and back) was just over 21 MPG;

Also, I remember right after I bought it bone stock I took it to florida and got 22 mpg highway at 75 mph. It was great. Now I've lost 3-4 mpg but gained badass-ness. It's a wash if you ask me. Still a lot better than my jeep was in every aspect. Also, my onboard mpg meter is now dead accurate since I put on a lift and 255/75r17's. It's pretty cool.
