Question about stock head unit

Hi, I just bought a 2000 4Runner SR5 about 2 weeks ago. My question is about the stock stereo. I have the 6 speaker system with CD and cassette. I have a 60watt x 4 Panasonic CD player that I want to use with the stock speakers. How much power does the stock system have? Does it use any amplifiers? If I install my head unti and leave everything else stock, will there be a big difference in sound? Thanks for any advice you have.

Yes replacing the head unit makes a BIG difference. I installed a Pioneer Headunit from a 2004 Scion (because everything fits perfectly, and I dont lose my steering wheel controls) and it made a huge difference, especially in Feel mode. Pioneer HU made for the Scion has 160watts. Cool heh.

I noticed you have a 2000 4runner, I am not sure if the 04 Scion will fit, but to answer your question, it does make a difference.

Yes my head unit gives off blue glow around the edges. Its the only CD player I have seen that has this. It looks sweet at night.

Can you stick a larger (higher wattage) 4 channel amp in place of the small separate stock amp, and still use the existing H.U. ?

I just installed a pioneer fh-p404, dual din in my 01 sr5 and used the same wiring harness from my 89 supra, just had to bypass the factory amp and it all plugged in...it was a piece of cake, sounds great @ only 40x4.

What's the difference between the Scion unit and the stock 4Runner unit?

Darktiger answered a few of my questions regarding the scion radio, which I recently purchased from a member of Scionlife.com . I haven't installed it yet but here's what Darktiger had to say......

The installation was a snap, only took 40 minutes, and I was going slow (plus I was hooking up a FM Modulator for XM). The sound quality is day and night. 100% improvement, you will not regret it. The Scion has more wattage, and has a better equilizer bandline. I love the Hear/Feel feature of the Scion radio. Plus the MP3 player rules. Now I can put off putting in speakers, because I orignally though it was my speakers that sucked, you know sounds sqeaky and cracks at high end notes, and the bass sucked. But the Scion improved all that.

from what i've read and understand, the 6 disc can work in my truck out of a scion..?? i have the regular, not JBL system..
