Question about the limited

I am new to this forum, and will be a new 4runner owner. I have searched for an answer, didnt find what I was looking for.

I am trying to decide between a sr5 and a limited. After lots of research on here and other sites, I do realize the differences.

I was looking into the limited bc of the superior ride quality. But theyre few and far between here locally.

So, my question is: If i got a sr5 and replaced the suspension to say bilstein and upgraded the tires, would the ride be similiar to a limited? the other bells and whistles I can do without. And quite personally, I'd rather put a quality touchscreen nav head unit in with aftermarket speakers than try the factory nav with jbl.

If i missed this topic somewhere else, I apologize. Any help would be appreciated.

Ride quality will not be superior if you define "ride quality" as smoothness. What you will get with the LE though is less lean in cornering and less nose dive during hard braking because the LE has XREAS suspension. Remember that the LE has much lower profile tires than the SR5 and those tend to accentuate bumps and expansion joints due to the decreased tire sidewall height.
 
so, the limiteds ride isnt that great, just better cornering.

can you add the sway bars and stuff to a sr5? i looked for some aftermarket swaybars without much luck.

in your opinion, since im planning on adding my own stereo and tires/suspension, and leather doesnt mean that much to me, should i just find a decent preowned sr5?

If price is an option I would go for a pre-owned SR5 and use any available cash and put it towards the suspension.
I'm assuming you have test drove both right?

Read what I wrote. I did not say the LE's ride was bad or terrible I said it was not superior to the SR5 if you use "smoothness" as your definition of ride quality. The LE also does not "corner" better it just gives you less lean. To minimize lean on an SR5 you would change springs and shocks.

I can't make a decision for you. You should go to a dealer and drive both and pick which one you like. Good luck.
 
I think it would be safe to say that if you bought a SR5 and upgraded the suspensions to one of the systems you see guys using here that it will be better than a Limited. I haven't seen anyone who upgraded the suspension on their Limited complain it got worse but that might be because they just dropped $2000-$5000 on parts.

I've got a Limited and the body role is noticeable. It was noticeable on the test drive and it's still there 3 years later with new tires. I hear the Honda Pilot is pretty good in corners....
 
limited ride quality

I just bought a 2010 Ltd as the XREAS suspension was just as IENGINEER says , it does'nt lean like the SR5 or dip as much when braking . I drove two SR5's and a trail one before buying it and while the Ltd is not a SUV on the highway , one oftem forgets its a truck at 70mph .I love the way the all wheel drive , the XREAS and the 20 inch wheels interact on the highway while still being great off road.
 
I trade it my limited for an Sr5 last week. I actually like the sr5 better. Limited felt like a tank it was to heavy and acceleration suck. Also the gas mileage i was getting on city was horrible. I really didnt like how the limited drive. Love my sr5 just my 2 cents
 
if your read all the sites and know the differences you will know that suspension isnt the only factor in this decision. That said I went SR5 and plan to replace most suspension components for less that the cost difference

What MPG where you getting in your LE? I get 21-23 in mine on my 16 mile freeway trip to work?

Only other things I would add is the full time 4wd that you can't get even as an option on SR5, if that even matters to you.

Keyless entry and ignition start < wife LOVES this one. And i think that just wraps it up.

Navi, if you are going after market doesn't matter. Though, you can get that on an SR5.

Try looking for certified pre owned.

I am surprised to hear this? I wanted the SR5 from the get go. I would think they would both feel the same size wise. I could see the gas mileage being not being great as it is full time AWD. Nice feature but I would suspect it would use more gas?

Drive the two as much as the dealer will let you, then go to two more and drive some more if needed. The choice will/should be clear. They are both great just different rigs. Something will trip your trigger one way or the other.
I won't mention what did it for me because that would simply be self serving and not serve any purpose.
Beware the posts that attempt to convince one way or the other, gotta ask yourself Why? They already own theirs. You are trying to buy yours.

well, that was a lot of info. thank you all for the help. i will be visiting a dealer or two in the next couple weeks

???? You may just have a heavy foot, I'm not a slow poke but keep it at 65 on my way to work and like I said I get 21 - 22 MPG.

That's the right answer, along with stop and go traffic and stabbing at the gas pedal. My wife gets the same mileage with ours, and I sit around 20 these days.
