Question on Compressor Installs

For those of you that have installed an on-board compressor, where exactly did you mount it and how?

I know that 97.4% of folks have installed them behind the air intake box - for those that did that type of install, how did you exactly mount your compressor?

I have an ARB CKMA12 that I want to install there but don't want to reinvent the wheel if folks have already found a simple way to install/bolt-on - even if it includes fabricating a mounting plate. Anyway, I am looking for details - most posts on installs don't go into that level of detail - and pics if you have them.

What I do see on that side is you cannot necessarily get away from fabricating some level of a mounting plate though there are a few options for stock threaded holes to leverage and you can also tap your own.

Show me what you've come up with...PLEASE.

just drilled through the sheet metal and used the backing plate from the compressor. i had this setup on my FJ and never had a problem.

I doubt the shop is still making them but at least you can find some more details there. Also check my build. I posted a lot of pictures in there of the bracket and how it works.

How did you wire your roof rack from inside? Did you go through the fin? I couldn't tell browsing though the 20+ pages

I went to Home Depot and bought one of these Simpson Strong-Tie Z-Max 3 in. x 7 in. Galvanized Heavy Tie Plate-HTP37Z at The Home Depot

Give you enough surface to mount almost any compressor. And a lot cheaper.

All you need to do is drill the holes in the plate to match the studs and the stand on the compressor

Thanks! I didn't go through the fin with my wires. I followed the same route the factory wires take from inside thecae, to inside the lift gate. But instead of going into the lift gate I just took them out in between the gap between the roof and the lift gate. There's enough room to squeeze a few wires in there - and they fit whether it's open or closed.

Update

So I ended up leveraging some simpson ties (thanks [MENTION=102715]CrazyNorwegian[/MENTION]) along with some coupling bolts. This way I didn't have to move anything, and got to use all factory bolt locations. Also pays to save your bolts...I am reusing factory bolts.
